Nov 17, 2020 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS – Redshirt junior catcher Haydan Hastings did something on Tuesday that he did not do in 17 games last spring. He hit a triple.
Hastings’ triple in the bottom half of the first inning sparked a seven-run frame, which propelled Team Blob to a convincing 7-0 victory over Team Bob at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Hastings finished the game with a team-best two hits and two RBI
With the win, Team Blob extended their series lead to 2-1 in the Fall Ball World Series.
Hastings’ triple plated Ethan Groff, who led off the game with a single to left field. What followed was a Team Blob hit parade, as three of the next four batters collected singles. Six of Team Blob’s seven hits came in the opening frame.
Neither team would score for the remainder of the game, as Team Blob would secure the win.
Team Blob starter Camryn Szynski picked up the win, as he worked 2.0 innings and struck out four of the eight batters he faced.
Despite the loss, Team Bob did have a bright spot in Brian Valigosky. The freshman left-hander came on to work 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. In addition, the New Orleans native struck out four and did not allow a hit.
The two teams return to the diamond on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. for game four of the Fall Ball World Series.
