Bowling Heads to Arkansas for Mid-Winter Invite

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The No. 16 Tulane bowling team returns to action this weekend, heading to Jonesboro, Arkansas, for the 2020 Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State University.
The three-day event gets underway Friday at the Hijinx Family Entertainment Center in Jonesboro and runs through Sunday afternoon. The Mid-Winter Invitational will feature 19 total teams this year, as teams will square off Friday with five Baker matches, traditional matches on Saturday and the best four out of seven bracket finals Sunday.
The Green Wave are coming off of a sixth-place finish last weekend at the Wildcat Classic in Orlando, where the team knocked down 12,187 total pins and went 7-5 overall in the event. It was the team's fourth top 10 finish of the year as the squad looks ahead to the 2020 Southland Bowling League Championship in late March.
"Heading into this tournament I feel like we have nothing to lose," head coach Hayley Veitch said. "We're going to have fun, do our best and use this tournament to continue to prepare for the conference tournament."
Tulane has an overall record of 42-34 on the season, sporting an 18-11 mark in Baker matches and a 16-14 record in traditional matches. In single matches on day two, the team has an average of 190.49, with over 26,000 pins knocked down.
Junior Madison McCall leads the team with 6,120 pins knocked down in 31 games this year, holding an average of 197.41. Freshman Amelia Vasquez earned her second all-tournament team nod in as many tournaments last weekend, as she finished sixth and is second to McCall on the season with 4,919 pins knocked down and a pin average of 196.76.
Of the 19 teams in the field, 12 are ranked in the February NTCA Top 25 and include No. 1 McKendree, No. 2 Sam Houston State, No. 3 Nebraska, No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 8 Stephen F. Austin, No. 9 Youngstown State, No. 11 Louisiana Tech, No. 15 Maryville, No. 16 Tulane, No. 18. Wisconsin, Whitewater, No. 20 Lincoln Memorial and No. 22 UAB.
Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Grambling and Jackson State round out the rest of the teams competing this weekend.
