Mar 1, 2020 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 home loss to 29th-ranked Old Dominion on Sunday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center.
Despite playing short-handed for the second day in a row, the Green Wave (6-7) pushed the Monarchs (9-2) early in doubles, as freshman Mackenzie Clark and junior Lauren Gish jumped out to a 5-3. lead over 10th-ranked Yulia Starodubtseva/Alesya Yakubovich on court one. Holding three match points, Old Dominion's duo battled back to win the game.
On court two however, freshman Lahari Yelamanchili and senior Christina Sisti kept things interesting, fighting back from a 4-1 deficit to pull within 5-4. Unfortunately, the Monarchs took the subsequent game, and with court one unfinished, clinched the doubles point for a 1-0 lead in the overall match.
Old Dominion picked up another point with a walkover win at No. 6 singles, before stringing together four more victories to clinch the win and jump ahead, 6-0. Sophomore Adelaide Lavery bounced back from a 6-1, first-set defeat to win the second frame, 7-5. She proved dominant in the third-set tiebreaker, 10-6, to put the Green Wave on the scoreboard.
Tulane remains at home to host Jackson State on Thursday, March 5 as a make-up date for the match which was originally scheduled for late January. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
