AUSTIN, Texas – Facing its highest-ranked opponent of the season, the Tulane men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision at reigning national champion and third-ranked Texas on Friday evening.
The Longhorns (11-3) drew first blood in doubles, jumping out to early leads on all three courts. Leading 5-3 in each matchup, they closed out courts one and two by 6-3 scores, respectively, to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
Texas kept the pressure on in singles, claiming five first sets, while junior Akos Kotorman claimed a 6-2 victory over Cleeve Harper in the first frame at the No. 6 spot in the lineup.
The Longhorns earned a pair of straight-set wins on courts two and five within moments of one another to push the Green Wave (5-5) to the brink with a 3-0 advantage. Texas broke serve in the second set to regain control on four before closing out another straight set win to clinch the match.
Tulane got on the scoreboard on court six when junior Akos Kotorman closed out a dominant, 6-2, 7-5 win over Cleeve Harper.
Senior and 72nd-ranked Ewan Moore bounced back from a lost first set, 6-4, against the nation's No. 6 player, Christian Sigsgaard, to win the second frame in a long tiebreaker, 7-6(8), and force a third-set breaker. Moore was dominant throughout, jumping out to an 8-3 lead before closing it out, 10-4, to complete the comeback. Sigsgaard marks the highest-ranked opponent Moore has defeated in his career.
