
Tulane Finishes the First Day of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Tulane University women's golf team finished the first day of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational ninth with a team score of 28-over 604 after the first two rounds.

The Green Wave shot 20-over 308 in the first round and eight-over 296 in the second round at the Sewailo Golf Club.

"We got off to a slow start round one and never really recovered," Green Wave head coach Stew Burke said. "Round two was an improvement, but I know the ladies are disappointed with our position. We need to do a better job of gathering information and being able to adjust our game plan accordingly."

Sophomore Isabella Cardenas closed the day tied for 24th at 5-over 149. She shot a four-over 76 in the first round and a one-over 73 in the second. Cardenas logged four birdies on the day.

Freshman Carlota Palacios shot 5-over 149 to sit tied for 24th place after the two rounds. She had five birdies on the day. Palacios logged the team's best round at two-under 70 on the second 18 holes of the day.

Senior Haydyn Gibson finished the first two rounds tied for 36th at seven-over 151. She recorded a four-over 76 in the first round and a three-over 75 in the second. Gibson had nine birdies on the day.

Senior Gabrielle Correia ended the first and second rounds tied for 53rd at 11-over 155. She fired a five-over 77 in the first round and sank three birdies on the day.

Freshman Hanna Liu closed the first two rounds in 62nd at 15-over 159. She had three birdies on the day.

Freshman Sandra Vazquez will head into the final round tied for 63rd at 16-over 160. She registered five birdies on the day.

Tournament host No. 10 Arizona was the only team under-par on the day and leads the field at 18-under 558. The Wildcats' Vivian Hou and Kailie Vongsaga lead all golfers at eight under 136.
