NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's basketball team will host Temple this weekend for two games. The first game will be Saturday, Jan. 30, at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. on ESPN+. The second game of the weekend is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. Sunday's game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
STARTING FIVE
1. Freshman Jerkaila Jordan has made a splash early in her collegiate career. She has been honored by the AAC five times. Back on Dec. 14 she was named Conference Player of the Week. She has led the Green Wave in scoring in seven of the team's 13 games this season.
2. Jordan currently ranks in the top five in the American Athletic Conference in scoring (15.0) and field goal percentage (.477). She leads all freshman in The American in scoring.
3. Jordan led the Green Wave to a win at Tulsa the last time out. She tied her career high with 22 points, while also having the best shooting day of her career going 8-9 from the field and 4-4 from three. She earned her fourth Freshman of the Week award for her efforts.
4. Senior Krystal Freeman leads the Green Wave and ranks fourth in the AAC with 8.4 rebounds per game. She is second on the team and eighth in the conference with 14.5 points a game.
5. Senior Arsula Clark earned Preseason Second Team All-AAC honors. She currently ranks third on the team and ninth in the conference in scoring with a 13.6 points per game average.
SERIES HISTORY – TEMPLE
• The Green Wave and the Owls have met 10 times in program history with Temple holding a 6-4 edge.
• The Green Wave took the last meeting between the two teams in the regular season finale , 53-50, in New Orleans.
• Senior Krystal Freeman led the Green Wave with 21 points and 10 rebounds last season. Senior Arsula Clark added 13 points and four assists, while sophomore Salma Bates logged a then career-high
• The Olive and Blue have won three straight against the Owls.
• All 10 games have been played during the Lisa Stockton era at Tulane.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
• Temple enters the weekend at Tulane carrying an 5-5 overall record and a 5-2 conference mark. The Owls are coming off a 65-55 win over Wichita State on Jan. 23.
• The Owls are second in the AAC in defensive rebounds (27.1). They are fourth in assists (13.5) and blocked shots (3.6). Temple ranks fifth in scoring (62.7) and rebounding offense (39.2).
• Senior Mia Davis leads the team and ranks second in the conference in scoring at 18.9 points per game. She ranks third in the AAC rebounding at 8.7 a game.
• The senior forward has scored 16 or more points in nine of the 10 games for Temple this season.
• Freshman Jasha Clinton is second on the team and 10th in the conference with 13.0 points per game. She is also second on the team and eighth in the conference with 3.3 assists per game.
• Sophomore Asonah Alexander ranks 12th in the nation and third in the conference with 6.1 assists per game. She also adds 6.9 rebounds and 4.9 points per game for the Owls.
• Junior forward Alexa Williamson is third on the team with 10.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
• Temple head coach Tonya Cardoza is in her 13th season on the bench for the Owls. She has posted a 232-167 mark since arriving in Philadelphia.
AMONG THE LEAGUE LEADERS
• Tulane ranks among the league's top five in 15 different statistical categories.
• The Green Wave leads the conference in field goal percentage at .435. They rank second the conference in scoring (69.2), scoring margin (+8.3), assists (15.1) and assist/turnover ratio (1.0).
FRESHMAN LEADS THE WAY
• Freshman Jerkaila Jordan currently leads the Green Wave with 15.0 points, 38 assists, 23 steals and 15 made three-point field goals.
• She is second on the team with 11 blocked shots and third averaging 4.7 rebounds.
FREEMAN JOINS THE 1,000-POINT CLUB
• Senior Krystal Freeman scored the 1,000th point of her career as she connected on a jumper from the wing against UCF in the third quarter of the Green Wave's league opener on the road.
• Freeman became the 29th player in program history to surpass 1,000 points. She currently ranks 17th in scoring in program history with 1,126 points.
LOUISIANA TALENT
• Freshman Jerkaila Jordan comes to Tulane after winning four straight Louisiana High School State Championships at John Curtis. She was named the MVP of each championship game.
• Jordan was named the Gatorade Player of the Year and Miss Basketball in the state of Louisiana in 2020. She was also the No. 45 recruit in the nation coming out of high school.
• She opened her collegiate career with 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals against Nicholls.
• Jordan earned AAC Freshman of the Week honors for her efforts against Nicholls.
• She followed that performance up with 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals at South Alabama. The freshman guard shot 2-3 from behind the arc and 4-4 from the charity stripe in Mobile, Ala.
• Jordan was named player of the week from the AAC on Dec. 14.
• The standout freshman earned her third AAC Freshman of the Week Award on Jan. 4, after logging 15 points, three rebounds and three steals in the win over Memphis.
• The New Orleans native earned her fourth Freshman of the Week Honor after tying her career-high with 22 points in the win at Tulsa. She had a career day shooting going 8-9 from the field and 4-4 from three against the Golden Hurricane.
