STARTING FIVE
1. Tulane begins a stretch of five road matchups in its next seven games in search of a regular-season series split against Temple. The Green Wave and Owls split last season's series after both squads scored respective road wins.
2. Tulane is in search of its third win in its last four trips to the Liacouras Center after defeating Temple, 85-75, in December 2017 before last year's 65-51 win on Jan. 11, 2020.
3. Last time out, the Green Wave broke a 12-day hiatus between games but suffered an 83-60 home loss to sixth-ranked Houston on Jan. 28. Jordan Walker led the Wave with 16 points, four assists and two steals. Gabe Watson scored 13 points and redshirt freshman Tylan Pope added 12 points and five rebounds off the bench. In addition to scoring 46-second-half points, Tulane outscored Houston, 30-26, in the paint and 7-5 off turnovers while winning the turnover battle, 10-9.
4. Tulane has won the turnover battle in 10 of its 11 contests this season while also forcing opponents into at least 15 mishaps on six occasions. Last season, the Green Wave committed equal or fewer turnovers than its opponents in 28 of 30 contests while ranking in the top 15 nationally in turnover margin (+4.3).
5. Tulane currently ranks first in The American in free throw percentage (.773), turnover margin (+4.4) and fewest turnovers per game (11.1). On the national scale, the Green Wave rank in the top 100 in turnover margin, turnovers per game and fewest fouls per game (16.1).
TULANE-TEMPLE CONNECTIONS
» Tulane head coach Ron Hunter credits his passion for coaching to watching former Temple head coach (1982-2006) and Naismith Hall of Famer John Chaney.
» Tulane redshirt junior Jordan Walker played with Temple forward J.P. Moorman at Victor Oladipo's basketball camp.
» Temple junior forward Sage Tolbert is a New Orleans native.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
• The Owls enter Sunday's matchup with wins in three of their last four games, including a 76-67 home win over Tulsa on Jan. 26.
• Temple is led by Damian Dunn's 14.0 points per game which rank 10th among all players in The American. Freshman guard Jeremiah Williams ranks third in the league in assists (4.5 APG).
• The Owls are fifth in the conference in rebounding (37.9), but are last in the league in turnover margin (-2.4) and steals per game (3.6 SPG).
BY THE NUMBERS
• 10 - Tulane's leading scorer Jaylen Forbes (14.8 PPG) has scored in double-figures a team-leading 10 times this season and in seven consecutive games.
• 215 - Tulane has made at least one 3-point field goal in 215 consecutive games. The last time the Green Wave failed to do so occurred on January 16, 2014 at home against Louisiana Tech when they shot 0-for-14 from outside.
• 362 - Tulane scored 2,050 total points last season but return just 362 of those from one year ago. That means more than 82.3 percent of the Green Wave's total offense will be replaced in 2020-21 and that is the seventh most among NCAA Division I programs this season.
LAST TIME THEY MET - JANUARY 16, 2021
With head coach Ron Hunter sidelined due to COVID-19 protocol and associate head coach Ray McCallum serving in his place, Tulane suffered a 65-57 home loss to Temple on Jan. 16. Jaylen Forbes led all Tulane scorers with 14 points, while Sion James finished with a season-high 13 points coming off the bench. James also pulled down five rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists while committing no turnovers. Tulane's bench outscored Temple's, 23-9. Temple freshman guard Damian Dunn led all scorers with 20 points. Teammate Jake Forrester added 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
