WACO, Texas – The Tulane cross country team competed in the NCAA Division I South Central Region Championships on Friday morning, with graduate student Therese Olshanski and junior Evans Kipchumba leading the way for the Green Wave in their respective races at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course.
Olshanski was first to cross the finish line for the Olive and Blue, finishing in 12th with a time of 21:11.9. Her performance earned a U.S Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association All-Region nod with her performance.
"Therese had an exceptional race today and really prepared well over the course of the fall for this opportunity and really gave herself the right chance from the beginning" head coach Adrian Myers said. "Made the right moves to the middle, progressed at the right points, when she was on that drive who was just running down bodies and fortunately for her she will be about 1.9 off an automatic bid to the national championships and really sets the bar high for what we are able to do here in Uptown."
Laura Croll followed behind with a time of 23:21.7 landing her a 106th place finish. Macy Turcotte came in 119th clocking a performance of 23:39.7 and sophomore Brenda Ellis came in 158th (25:00.0).
On the men's side, Kipchumba was the first to cross the finish line, recording a time of 32:33.6 in the 10K to finish in 49th.
Bethwell Tum finished 120th with a time of 34:38.5, Tucker Poshard 117th coming in at 16:33.0, Adam Aldahair finished 141st with a time of 35:50.9, right behind him in 142nd was Iker Yturralde timing in at 35:54.4. Rounding out the men's team was Tucker Poshard with a time of 36:25.9 placing him in 148th and Ian Valdez with a time of 37:06.5 putting him at 154th.
The men's team averaged a time of 35:05 in the race, finishing 21st overall. Texas took the region title with an average time of 30:36.
"We have nothing but the ability to move upwards and we will. Soon enough we will be at this meet looking for team bids on the men's and women's sides of the national championships. It's very inspiring to be here and watch these teams compete and also measure up what I think we can do here in the near future."
Olshanski will await a bid to the NCAA Championships.
