Tulane Men’s Basketball Outlasts Drexel 90-87 in Overtime

NASSAU, Bahamas – The Tulane University men's basketball team needed over six hours, two courts, two separate pairs of jerseys and an overtime session, but in the end, the Green Wave picked up their second win of the season, as it defeated Drexel 90-87 inside the Baha Mar Convention Center.

Sophomore guard Jaylen Forbes scored a game-high 30 points and connected on a season-high six shots from 3-point range. Joining Forbes in double figures were teammates Kevin Cross, Jalen Cook and Sion James, as they finished the game with 21, 19 and 13 points, respectively.

Forbes also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, while Cook dished out four assists to lead the way for the Green Wave.

As a team, Tulane shot 50 percent from the field compared to Drexel's 47 percent. The Green Wave also held a 35-33 edge on the boards and won the turnover battle 13-10.

The Green Wave outshot the Dragons 53.6-40.0 percent in the first half and took a commanding 42-30 lead into the locker room. In the second half, Drexel came out firing, as it went on an 11-5 run to trim Tulane's lead to five with 16:32 remaining.

Then things really got interesting.

Following a pair of Cross free throws, which made the score 57-53 with 12:15 remaining, the game was delayed by four hours thanks to water that dropped from the roof of the venue onto the floor.

The water on the court made the court unplayable, so the game moved to the tournament practice court and play resumed at 8 p.m. ET. Once play resumed, Drexel opened up a four-point lead with just under eight minutes to go in the game. The Green Wave fought back to tie the score at 66 apiece.

Drexel made one last push in regulation and appeared to have the Green Wave right where it wanted them, as the Dragons held a three-point lead with less than 30 seconds to play, but Cross completed a three-point play with 11 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

In the overtime session, Tulane outshot Drexel 83.3-33.3 percent and held a 5-2 rebounding advantage to help secure the win. The Green Wave outscored the Dragons 13-10 in the overtime session.
