
Tulane Welcomes the College of Charleston on Tuesday Night

TULANE VS. COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON - GAMENOTES
NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane University men's basketball team returns to action at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT, as it faces off against the College of Charleston for the second time this season.
The Green Wave's matchup with College of Charleston will be aired live on ESPN+. Fans can watch the game live by CLICKING HERE. STARTING FIVE
1. The Tulane University men's basketball team returns home for its second matchup with the College of Charleston in the past week. The Green Wave is in the midst of a stretch where they will play four of their next five games at the Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
2. The Green Wave enters their matchup with the College of Charleston in the hopes of building off its 21-point win over Alcorn State this past Saturday.
3. Head coach Ron Hunter is in his third season in Uptown (28th season overall) and will look to build on the team's 2021 Quarterfinal appearance in the American Athletic Conference Championship.
4. This season, Hunter's staff welcomes back six letterwinners, six newcomers and three starters, including preseason All-American Athletic Conference honoree Jaylen Forbes. Forbes is one of three players on the team, averaging 10-or-more points per game. Freshman Jalen Cook leads the team with 19.0 points per game - a figure that ranks third in the American Athletic Conference. As a team, Tulane is averaging 72.1 points per game and connecting at a 44.8 percent clip.
5. The Green Wave have won the turnover battle in seven of their eight games this season. During the 2021-22 campaign, Tulane won the turnover battle in 19 of its 23 contests last season while also forcing opponents into at least 15 mishaps on 11 occasions. During the 2019-20 campaign, the Green Wave committed equal or fewer turnovers than its opponents in 28 of 30 contests while ranking in the top 15 nationally in turnover margin (+4.3).
THE SERIES
• Tulane's matchup with the College of Charleston will mark the second all-time meeting between the two teams.
• The two teams met for the first time in program history last week with the College of Charleston picking up an 81-77 win over Tulane.
• Green Wave head coach Ron Hunter is 0-1 all-time against the College of Charleston.
THE OPPONENT - COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON
• The Cougars enter their matchup with Tulane after they suffered a three-point overtime loss to Furman on the road.
• Despite the loss this past weekend, the College of Charleston is off to its best start to a season (5-3) since the 2018-19 campaign.
• The College of Charleston is connecting at a 37.0 percent clip from beyond the arc. In its last matchup with Tulane, C of C drilled a season-high 12 3-pointers.
• Freshman guard Reyne Smith leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.6 points per game.
• Senior guard Dimitrius Underwood leads the team in rebounds (6.5) and assists (3.4) per game.
• Head coach Pat Kelsey is in his first year on the bench for the Cougars. Prior to his arrival at College of Charleston, Kelsey spent the last nine seasons at Winthrop where he helped the Cougars to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
• College of Charleston was picked to finish seventh in the CAA Preseason Poll.
LAST TIME OUT: Tulane Rolls Past Alcorn State
• After having each of its first seven games decided by five points or less, the Tulane University men's basketball team needed a convincing win. On Saturday, the Green Wave got just that, as they defeated Alcorn State 85-64 inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
• With the win, Tulane snapped its three-game losing streak and improved to 4-0 all-time against Alcorn State. The win also moved the Green Wave to 2-1 at home this season and 3-5 overall.
• Sophomore guard Jaylen Forbes led the way with 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor. Forbes' scoring effort marked the third time this season he has scored 20-or-more points.
• Sophomore guard Jaylen Forbes raced the ball up the floor, but his jumper inside the paint fell just short. After a pair of College of Charleston free throws, Tulane had one last chance to tie the game, but were unable to do so in the closing seconds, as the Cougars secured the win.
• Joining Forbes in double figures was sophomore Kevin Cross as he posted 16 points. Cross also dished out a career-high 13 assists. In addition, the Little Rock, Arkansas native pulled down seven rebounds and fell just shy of becoming the first Tulane player since 1997 to record a triple double (Rayshard Allen).
• With the win , head coach Ron Hunter captured his 470th career win.
MILESTONE WATCH
• Sophomore Jaylen Forbes needs 10 points to reach 600 career points.
• Sophomore Kevin Cross needs 19 points to reach 500 for his career. He also needs 30 rebounds for 300 in his career.
• Senior Scott Spencer needs 59 points for 500 in his career.
• Senior DeVon Baker needs 54 points to reach 1,200 in his career.
COOK MAKES IMMEDIATE IMPACT
• Freshman Jalen Cook has been named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll twice this season, earning a spot on Nov. 15 and Nov. 22.
• Cook currently ranks third in the American Athletic Conference with 19.0 points per game.
• Most recently, Cook was selected to the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship All-Tournament Team.
FORBES' THE FLAMETHROWER
• In his two outings last week, sophomore Jaylen Forbes averaged 22.5 points per game, a figure which ranked second in the American Athletic Conference. On Monday, Forbes was selected to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll.
• Earlier this season against Drexel, Forbes poured in a season-high 30 points in the Green Wave's 90-87 win..
• Forbes' 30-point effort is tied for the league's single highest scoring output this season.
• Through games of Dec. 4, Forbes is one of only three players in the American to score 30 points or more this season.
• Last season, he poured in a career-high 37 points on 9-of-15 shooting and made his first seven attempts from 3-point range while going 12-of-15 at the free throw line at Cincinnati on Feb. 26, 2021. The Florence, Mississippi, native's 37 points are the most by a Green Wave player in a regulation game since Jerald Honeycutt had 38 against Xavier on Jan. 16, 1997.
• His seven treys are tied for the second most in a single game in program history with Cameron Reynolds being the last to make seven against Alcorn State in November 2017.
A CALL TO THE HALL
• Tulane University men's basketball associate head coach Ray McCallum was named to the 2022 Men's Induction class this week by the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
• McCallum, who has served as the Green Wave's associate head coach since the start of the 2019-20 campaign, received the Hall of Fame nod after he posted a standout career during his time as a high school player, a collegiate student-athlete and his contributions as a head coach.
A PARADISE MARATHON
• The Tulane University men's basketball team needed over six hours, two courts, two separate pairs of jerseys and an overtime session, but in the end, the Green Wave picked up their second win of the season, as it defeated Drexel 90-87 back on Nov. 22.
• Tulane overcame a four-hour delay in the first game of the Baha Mar Nassau Championship and finished the game on the tournament practice court after standing water on the primary game court made the contest unplayable.
WELCOME TO UPTOWN
• Tulane had three newcomers make their respective debuts on Nov. 9 against Southeastern, as guards DeVon Baker, Scott Spencer and Jalen Cook all made appearances against their in-state foes.
• The three new players combined for 40 points and helped propel the Green Wave to the win over Southeastern.
• Cook led the way with 28 points.
FINAL FOUR HEADED BACK TO NOLA
• In an announcement made on Nov. 10, 2016, the NCAA and the Division I Men's Basketball Committee announced the 2022 Men's Final Four will be played in New Orleans with Tulane serving as the host institution.
• New Orleans will host the Final Four for the sixth time overall and the first time in 10 years. New Orleans traditionally has been one of the most popular Final Four cities and has provided several iconic championship moments that will be celebrated as anniversaries in 2022.
