Tulane Athletics to Honor Mike Johnston at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Athletics announced today that it will forever recognize former Greenbacker president Mike Johnston with an honorary blue seat inside Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Johnston served as the President of the Greenbackers for over 25 years before passing away this past September.
The blue seat will be located on the first base line side of the stadium in Johnston's season ticket location, where he would watch Green Wave home games alongside members of the Greenbackers. This blue seat will be the only one of its kind inside the ballpark, surrounded by the green chairback seats fans are accustomed to at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Â
"Mike was a great fan, because he wasn't looking for anything in return," Ben Weiner Director of Athletics Troy Dannen said. "Mike cared about the coaches, he cared about the student-athletes, he cared about the university and really all he asked for in return was to just be a part of everything and remain connected to his alma mater."
"Mike truly was the life of the club and I think this is a great tribute to Mike and his family," Greenbacker member Kenny Kuhn said. "I had known Mike for 40 years and I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time with him over the years. He had a very warm personality and he just enjoyed life."
This past fall, Tulane Athletics honored the Johnston family with a gameball following the Green Wave's 66-24 win over Southern Miss in football.Â
"We could not be more excited to honor Mike, his family and the Greenbackers for all the support he provided our student-athletes, coaches and staff," Senior Associate Athletics Director Jana Woodson said.
No matter the sport, no matter the time, Johnston made sure the Greenbackers were there to support all Tulane teams both on and off the field.
