Apr 26, 2021 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS – For the second straight week a Tulane University baseball player has been honored by the American Athletic Conference, as sophomore shortstop Collin Burns was named league player of the week on Monday.
Â
In addition, redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Donovan Benoit was selected as the league honor roll. Benoit's selection to the honor roll marked the second straight week a Tulane pitcher had been named to the weekly honor roll.
Â
Burns was named Player of the Week following another strong week at the plate where he batted .400 for the week. He also drove in seven runs, scored six times and totaled home runs in three straight games, as he extended his hitting streak to 17 games.
Â
His three home runs, seven RBI and 18 total bases led the American Athletic Conference last week.
Â
Benoit earned a spot on the honor roll after he posted career-bests of 7.1 innings worked and 11 strikeouts. The Pensacola, Florida native was in complete control throughout the game as he retired 11 batters in-a-row. He also struck out five in-a-row at one point in the game.
