Tulane Sailing Finishes Fifth at Boston College Regatta
Apr 3, 2021 | Sailing
NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane University sailing team finished fifth the Boston College Team Race this weekend.
Â
"We had some really solid racing today," Tulane head coach Charles Higgins said. "It was really unfortunate to lose the first two races. In each, we were winning in very stable combinations going into the final leg, only to make some mental errors that have those teams an opportunity."
Â
In the third round, Tulane won two races and lost three. The Green Wave took down Connecticut College (1-2-5) and Stanford (1-2-5).
Â
"We bounced back to get some good wins at the end, and overall I'm still very pleased with our progression and performance this weekend," Higgins said.
The Wave fell to the race winner Roger Williams, the U.S Coast Guard and Boston College.
Â
The team was the same as yesterday, made up of skippers William Keenan, Marcus Huttunen, Cameron Giblin, Thad Lettsome and Ciara Rodriguez-Horan. The Tulane crews were Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez, Gillian Perrell, Lydia Brown and Kit Stoll.
Â
A strong performance against tough competition will have Tulane optimistic about the rest of their competitive season.
Â
"It hurts a little bit to lose the tiebreaker with Stanford and BC, but we've surprised everyone simply by being in contention with these teams this season," Higgins said. "I feel confident ,if we see some these teams at the National Championships, that we will be considerably stronger than where we currently are."
Â
Up Next:
Tulane has a long break from competition before it races at ICSA Singlehanded Championships on April 24-25.
