NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane University sailing team will compete in the ICSA Women's Championship on Wednesday and Thursday in Annapolis, MD.
Â
The race will be in the team format with eighteen teams competing in both A and B division races. At the end, the combined score of both the A and B boats will determine the overall score for a school.
Â
The action starts at 10 a.m. EST both days. The teams will compete in ten races on Wednesday and finish the final eight on Thursday. Tulane's women will face off against new faces such as the defending women's national champion Brown and UC Santa Barbara, as well as some familiar foes such as Jacksonville University and the University of South Florida.
Â
Starting in the A division for the Green Wave is the skipper-crew duo of juniors Ciara Rodriguez-Horan and Grace Siwicki.Â
Â
Starting in the B division for Tulane is sophomore skipper Caroline Benson and freshman crew Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez.
Â
Senior Alanna Austin, junior Isabella Bentz, and freshman Mia Hanes will travel with the team as alternates.
Â
"I feel quite good," head coach Charles Higgins said. "The girls have looked really good in practice. We were at the same venue back in March for an event against the Naval Academy and Charleston, and both these sets of girls sailed really well and had fantastic regattas. Hopefully we can carry not only that momentum, but also the progress we have made since then into the championship."
Â
Since transforming into a varsity program in 2018, this year marks Tulane's second trip to the ICSA Championships and they will look to make their mark in the first team ICSA Championship regatta since 2019.
