
Tulane Women’s Basketball Plays Host to ECU Saturday

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University women's basketball (11-7, 3-4) will look to get back in the win column as it hosts ECU (8-11, 1-5) on Saturday. Tipoff between the Green Wave and the Pirates is set for 3 p.m. CT in Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Green Wave's matchup with the Knights will be aired live on ESPN+. Fans can watch the game live by CLICKING HERE. Fans also can listen to the contest live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 88.3 WRBH with Gus Kattengell or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.
This will be the 29th all-time meeting between Tulane and ECU. The Green Wave leads the series 19-9 after the two squads split their two matchups a season ago. The Wave lost the first contest 72-64 in Greenville, N.C. on Dec. 22, 2020, before topping the Pirates 77-60 in Uptown on March 2, 2021. With last season's win at home Tulane improved to 8-4 against ECU in New Orleans including wins in the last four meetings. Under head coach Lisa Stockton Tulane holds a 19-8 advantage over the Pirates.
Four players are averaging at least 11 points for the Olive and Blue this season with redshirt senior Moon Ursin leading the team averaging 13.7 and 9.4 rebounds per game. The Destrehan, Louisiana, native ranks third in the AAC in rebounding and ninth in scoring. Dynah Jones joins Ursin in the top-10 in scoring in the league with 13.2 points per contest. Arsula Clark follows with 11.8 points and 4.0 assists while Krystal Freeman rounds out the top scorers for Tulane posting 11.1 points and 7.3 boards per contest.
In its last time out, Tulane lost a tight battle on the road to UCF 69-67 on Wednesday. After giving up the lead in the fourth quarter, the Green Wave rallied to score five unanswered points in the final 30 seconds to pull within two points. Tulane forced the Knights into a turnover to get one last shot to tie or take the lead, but the final shot would bounce out as Tulane's three-game win streak in AAC play came to an end. Jones led the Wave's offensive attack with 20 points while Ursin followed with 17 points and eight rebounds.
The Green Wave is 7-2 at home so far this season including 2-2 in league competition. Tulane is averaging 73.3 points while allowing only 65.6 points per game to its opponents in Uptown. The Wave controls the glass at home averaging 46.8 board and outrebounding opponents by 10.1 rebounds per game.
ECU is coming off its second consecutive loss and its third-straight road AAC loss after falling 70-55 at Wichita State on Tuesday. The Pirates are led by Taniyah Thompson who ranks second in the conference in scoring at 16.6 points per game. ECU leads the league in steals per game (11.68), ranks second in blocked shots (4.63) and rates third in scoring defense (59.32). The Pirates are 1-8 in road games so far this season including 0-3 in league road contests. ECU is averaging 55.6 points on 34.9 percent shooting away while giving up 66.0 points on 42.8 percent shooting away from home this season.
Following its matchup with the Pirates, the Green Wave will host a non-conference matchup against Tougaloo College on Wednesday, February 2. Tipoff between Tulane and the Bulldogs is set for 6 p.m. CT.
