Tulane Sweeps Baldwin Wood Regatta, Sits 16th in Atlantic Coast Finals

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Sailing took advantage of racing on its home waters of Lake Pontchartrain to sweep the top three spots of the Baldwin Wood Open Fleet Race on Saturday. The Green Wave's second squad landed 16th out of 18 teams at the end the first day of tough competition in the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Finals.
Team Riptide claimed the top spot for Tulane in the Baldwin Wood Open Fleet Race finishing with 49 total points. John Wood and Raquel Shulman paced Riptide and all sailors finishing with a regatta-best 18 points in the A Division. In the B Division for Riptide, Bobby Rielly and Ellie Spearman finished third overall. The Angry Wave Women finished second overall on the day with the B Division team of Ashley Hoguet and Megan Cassidy pacing the team to finish second overall. The A Division team of Lucy Spearman and Catherine Anderson posted a fourth-place overall finish for the Angry Wave Women. Team Green Wave finished third overall as the A Division team, Zander King and Alex Makoid, landed fifth overall and the B Division team, Matheo Capasso and Essie Clifton finished sixth.
The Green Wave ended the opening day of the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Finals in 16th out of 18 teams through eight races for each division. The combination of Ciara Rodriguez-Horan, Asher Zittrer and Gillian Perrell paced Tulane finishing 15th in the B Division. In the A Division, Cameron Giblin raced with Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez to end the day 16th.
Tulane will look to climb the standing of the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Finals with another day of racing on Sunday.
