Russell, Yelamanchili Headed to ITA National Fall Championships
Nov 1, 2022 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The dynamic doubles duo of Charlotte Russell and Lahari Yelamanchili for Tulane University Women's Tennis will compete in the 2022 ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego, California, beginning on Wednesday. The tournament will take place at the Barnes Tennis Center and run through Sunday.
Russell and Yelamanchili are the first doubles pair for the Green Wave to earn a spot at Nationals since Julie Smekodub and Jenny Kuhn 2002. Smekodub and Kuhn not only reached the tournament, but took home the title to win the first national championship in women's tennis at Tulane.
The Tulane duo will face the Maryland doubles team of Mary Brumfield and Selma Cadar in the opening round of 32 Wednesday afternoon. Russell and Yelamanchilli are 5-4 this fall in doubles competition after being tabbed at No. 14 for Preseason Doubles in the first Division I Women's ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings in September.
The Championships are the grand finale to the fall collegiate season and feature 64 of the nation's top collegiate singles players (32 men and 32 women) and 64 doubles teams (32 men's teams and 32 women's teams). The event is in its fifth year, having replaced the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships beginning in 2017.
