Green Wave Gets Final Tune Up with Exhibition Win Over Spring Hill College
Nov 2, 2022 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Led by junior Jaylen Forbes, Tulane shook off the off-season dust with a 81-53 victory over Spring Hill College on Wednesday night inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
Â
Forbes looked to be in mid-season form scoring 23 points shooting .500 from the field and going 6-11 from three-point range. Sion James tabbed 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals. Kevin Cross totaled 13 points going 5-10 from the field, grabbed six boards, five assists and two blocks. R.J. McGee was the fourth Tulane player in double digits, scoring 10 points.
Â
Tulane only turned the ball over four times in comparison to Spring Hill College's 17, getting 20 points off the Badgers turnovers. The Green Wave also picked the Badgers pockets 12 times in the win.
Â
Pulling ahead early, Tulane was able to hold its lead for all but two minutes of the game. James put the Wave up 14 with a commanding dunk just midway through the first. Back-to-back threes from Forbes would separate the two teams even more, with the half ending on a dunk from the junior to head into the locker room up 29, 47-18.
Â
Spring Hill didn't have much fight in them, making no dent in the Tulane lead in the second half. Oregon State transfer Tre Williams played lockdown defense and grabbed his first points wearing the Olive & Blue by draining a three to put the team up 55-29.
Â
Tulane's bench was able to get in on the action late in the game with Oton Jankovic getting two dunks and Max Bowman hitting a deep three with just 30 seconds left in the game.
Â
This was Tulane's final exhibition before the beginning of the regular season. The Green Wave's faces UMBC at home on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. Â Â
