
No. 17 Bowling Heads To Texas For the Track Kat Klash This Weekend

New Orleans – The No. 17 ranked Tulane University bowling team continues its busy stretch before the holidays and travels to Houston, Texas for the Track Kat Klash this weekend at Emerald Lanes from Friday – Sunday. The action starts on Friday at 9:55 a.m. The start time on Saturday is 9:30 a.m. with Sunday's action beginning at 8:20 a.m.
"This tournament will give us another opportunity to see teams we haven't seen yet this season," explained head coach Hayley Veitch. "We have progressed every tournament we have competed in as we continue to improve on being more consistent and competitive every weekend. Our key is to keep focused as a team by staying in our bubble. Together we win, together we learn!"
The Green Wave are one of 20 teams that are invited to participate in the tournament along with Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Central Missouri, Delaware State, Louisiana Tech, Lincoln Memorial, Monmouth, Nebraska, North Carolina A&T, Prairie View A&M, Sacred Heart, Lewis, Maryville, McKendree, Southern, Upper Iowa, Texas Southern, UAB and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The competitive field includes 15 ranked or receiving votes in the top 25 teams including five of the top 10 programs nationally.
The first day of competition this weekend, Nov. 4, will be five (5) five-game baker matches with total pins being the goal. In the qualifying rounds, teams will alternate lanes after each baker game until the match is complete. Tulane squares off with No. 15 nationally ranked Maryville in lanes 19-20 in the first match, No. 1 nationally ranked McKendree College in lanes 13-14 in the second match, receiving votes UAB in lanes 15-16 in the third match, No. 3 nationally ranked Nebraska in lanes 27-28 in the fourth match and No. 14 nationally ranked UMES in lanes 25-26 in the fifth match.
The second day of the tournament, Nov. 5, is a format of five (5) traditional team games. The program squares off with No. 20 nationally ranked Lewis in the sixth match of the tournament in lanes 15-16, No. 23 nationally ranked Monmouth in the seventh match in lanes 31-32, No. 21 nationally ranked Central Missouri in lanes 13-14 in the eighth match, No.12 nationally ranked Delaware State in lanes 9-10 in the ninth match and No. 7 nationally ranked North Carolina A&T in lanes 33-34 in the 10th match.
On the third day, Nov. 6, teams will complete in three rounds of match play in a playoff bracket. Each of the rounds in match play will be a best-of-seven baker match.
The playoff rounds will be seeded using overall total pin fall standings after the qualifying round (day one) is completed. The higher seed has the choice of starting lane for the first baker game with one exception. The exception is if the match goes to a single deciding baker game, the higher seed has the choice.
The first, second and third place teams will be awarded the team awards.
The five individuals that participate in a minimum of four traditional matches and have the highest individual averages will earn a position on the all-tournament team. The MVP award is given to the individual with the highest tournament average.
This year's Tulane bowling roster features five returners in sophomore Katharina Mente, senior Jenica Baron, junior Morgan Gitlitz, senior Amelia Vasquez and junior Yarelis Alvarez. Joining the program are three newcomers in freshman Cassidy Williams, sophomore Sofiia Druchyna and freshman Mia Stolakis.
Last weekend the program finished fifth among a strong field at the Dezy Strong Classic with 12,414 total pins. The team put up an overall record of 9-4 over the three days of competition. Gitlitz led the program individually in earning All-Tournament honors by finishing fourth overall with her 1,060 pins and 212 average.
This season, Vasquez is leading the team with her 2,967 total pins, Stolakis has the highest individual performance with her 266 against UMES (10/15) and Gitlitz has the highest individual average on the team at 200.1. Tulane sports an overall 26-13 record this season through the first three tournaments.
Next, the program travels to University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Millsboro, Delaware for the Hawk Classic from Nov. 18-21.The tournament will be the last one of the fall for Tulane as the program next action will come from Jan. 8-10 at the Stormin' Blue and White Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada.
