Tulane Hosts Southern in Uptown Sunday

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Women's Basketball will look to improve to 7-3 on the season as it welcomes Southern to Uptown on Sunday. Tipoff between the Green Wave and the Jaguars is set for 2 p.m. inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.

This marks the 10th all-time meeting between Tulane and Southern with the Wave holding a 5-4 advantage over the Jaguars including wins in the last four matchups. The last time the Green Wave squared off against Southern, Tulane won 77-48 on December 18, 2015, in New Orleans. The Wave is 4-1 all-time at home against Southern with victories in the last three meetings in Uptown.

In her 29th year at the helm of the Green Wave, head coach Lisa Stockton is undefeated with a 4-0 record against the Jaguars.

In its last time out, Tulane outlasted Troy to win 103-100 in double-overtime on the road Wednesday. Five players scored in double figures for Tulane including Marta Galic (21), Rachel Hakes (20), Dynah Jones (18), Kahia Warmsley (18), and Kyren Whittington (10).

Three players are averaging double figures in scoring for the Green Wave this season. Galic leads the team with 15.6 points per contest. Jones follows with 14.1 points per game while Kyren Whittington posts 11.0 points per game.

Tulane leads the American Athletic Conference this season in assists per game (18.0) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.20). The Green Wave ranks 20th nationally in assists and 27th in assist-to-turnover ratio.

Southern enters the matchup with an 3-5 record following an 84-54 victory at home over Spring Hill College on Friday. The Jaguars are averaging just 53.9 points per game this season while allowing their opponents to score 71.5 points per contest. Amani Mcwain and Aleighyah Fontenot pace Southern in the scoring column with 10.4 and 7.9 points per game, respectively. The Jaguars were picked to finish third in the SWAC preseason poll.

Following the matchup with the Jaguars, the Green Wave will host three programs for the Tulane Holiday Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 20-21. Tulane will face Saint Francis to open the tournament at noon on Tuesday. The Wave will then play either Tennessee Tech or VCU on Wednesday.
