Stage Set for Tulane Holiday Tournament in Uptown

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Women's Basketball will host three teams for the Tulane Holiday Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave will face Saint Francis to open the tournament at noon on Tuesday followed by a matchup between Tennessee Tech and VCU.

This marks the first holiday tournament the Wave has hosted in Uptown since 2019. Tulane holds a 42-6 record in its home holiday tournament which began in 1996.
Fans can watch both games for the Green Wave on Tuesday and Wednesday on ESPN+. You can also listen live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 88.3 WRBH with Paul Boron or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This marks only the second all-time meeting between Tulane and Saint Francis with the Wave taking the victory in that matchup. In the lone meeting between Tulane and the Red Flash, the Green Wave won 89-67 on December 21, 2013, at the FGCU Hilton Garden/Homewood Suites Classic.

Tulane has never played against Tennessee Tech but has faced VCU 11 times in program history. The Wave trails the all-time series against the Rams 5-6 with its last win coming on November 18, 1998.

In her 29th year at the helm of the Green Wave, head coach Lisa Stockton holds a 3-2 record against the teams competing in the Tulane Holiday Tournament.

In its last time out, Tulane defeated Southern 67-52 at home on Sunday, Dec 11. Dynah Jones led all scorers with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Kahia Warmsley and Amira Mabry also posted double-digits in scoring with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Three players are averaging double figures in scoring for the Green Wave this season. Marta Galic leads the team with 14.7 points per contest. Jones follows with 14.4 points per game while Kyren Whittington posts 10.3 points per game. Galic leads the American Athletic Conference and ranks sixth nationally in three-pointers per game with 3.3.

Tulane leads the AAC in assists per game (17.6) and ranks second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.13). Rachel Hakes leads the league in assists (68), assists per game (6.8), and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.62).

Saint Francis enters the tournament with an 0-10 record following an 41-81 loss at Youngstown State on Friday. The Red Flash is averaging just 47.3 points per game this season while allowing their opponents to score 70.3 points per contest. Four players average at least seven points per game led Aaliyah Moore with 7.9.

Tennessee Tech enters the tournament with an 6-3 record following an 83-59 win at Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday. The Golden Eagles average 68.1 points per game on 42 percent shooting from the field. Maaliya Owens leads the team in scoring with 12.9 points per game while shooting 39.6 percent from downtown.

VCU enters the tournament with a 3-8 record following four consecutive losses. The Rams are 2-5 away from home so far this season. The Rams are averaging 56.8 points per game while surrendering 61.4 points per contest this season. Junior Sarah Te-Biasu leads VCU averaging 14.5 points and 2.5 assists per game.
The loser between Tulane and Saint Francis will face the loser of the Tennessee Tech and VCU matchup in the consolation game Wednesday at 11 a.m. The winners of Tuesday's games will follow for a matchup in the championship game at 1:30 p.m.
