Building Off a Strong 2021Â
- Tulane finished 2021 with a record of 31-24, including 17-10 in the American.
- The 17-10 in-conference record propelled the Wave to a second-place finish in the AAC, behind only ECU.
- Home-field advantage was a big factor for the Green Wave, as they went 20-11 in GFATS.
- The Green Wave has been projected to repeat its second-place finish in the AAC. Â
- Tulane has won ten straight opening day games coming into Friday's matchup.
- The Wave's last five opening day victories have come by just one run.Â
- Tulane will need to find some serious production on the mound from Tyler Hoffman, Dylan Carmouche, Michael Massey.
- Wave pitchers threw 485.2 innings in 2021, 358.2 of those innings were by players who are no longer on the team.
- 248.1 of those innings were thrown by the four Green Wave pitchers taken in the 2021 MLB draft, Jack Aldrich, Braden Olthoff, Donovan Benoit, and Keegan Gillies.
- Eleven new pitchers will take the mound for Tulane in 2022, eight freshmen and three transfers.
Sophomore Surge
- Tulane got huge production from freshmen in 2021, who will look to take on an even bigger role in 2022.
- Sophomore catcher Bennett Lee, who was 2021 AAC Newcomer Position Player of the Year and an All-AAC First Teamer, led the Green Wave in batting average (.440), slugging (.600), and OBP (.527).
- Sophomore infielder Chase Engelhard, who was a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American, started 53 games in 2021, and led Tulane hitters in RBIs (52) and home runs (9).Â
- Sophomore outfielder Jacob LaPrairie started 45 games in 2021, hit .285, and led the team in walks (29).
Scouting the River Hawks
- UMASS Lowell went 19-28 in 2021.
- The River Hawks finished sixth in the American East and have been projected to finish sixth in 2022.
