Tulane Baseball Suffers 6-1 Setback To No. 15 Louisiana Tech
Feb 25, 2022 | Baseball
RUSTON, La. - The Tulane University baseball team suffered its first loss of the 2022 campaign Friday night, as it dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 15-ranked Louisiana Tech inside J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
Â
Both teams collected six hits and left seven runners on base, but in the end, the Green Wave were unable to overcome Louisiana Tech's offensive surge in the seventh inning as the Bulldogs plated four runs on one hit.
Â
Louisiana Tech struck first, as it plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, but the Green Wave responded with a run in the top half of the fourth thanks to an RBI single by freshman Jackson Linn which scored sophomore Chase Engelhard, who reached base thanks to a double to right center field.
Â
Redshirt senior Luis Aviles, redshirt sophomore Brennan Lambert, redshirt Simon Baumgardt and redshirt sophomore Ethan Groff also chipped in for the Green Wave as they each collected hits.
Â
Tulane threatened to score in the sixth, as it put a runner in scoring position, but that was as close as it would get after La. Tech pitchers retired 14 of the next 17 Green Wave batters.
Â
Redshirt junior Tyler Hoffman suffered the loss and dropped to 0-1 on the year after he worked 5.0 innings, struck out four, gave up two earned runs and walked four.
Â
La. Tech's Jonathan Fincher picked up the win for the Bulldogs after he went 6.0 innings and struck out eight batters.
