Tulane's Notes          Southern Miss' Notes
NEW ORLEANS -Â The Tulane University baseball team (10-2) is taking on Southern Miss (9-2) in a mid-week matchup on Wednesday in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Â
THE MATCHUP
First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The game will be the first of two to take place this season. The second comes in New Orleans on Tuesday, April 19.
The game will be aired live on ESPN+ and radio coverage will be on WRBH 88.3 FM.
Â
The two sides faced off for a pair of mid-week games in the 2018 season where the pair each took a win. The Golden Eagles won the first 12-3 and the Green Wave picked up the second win later in the season, 10-7.
Â
Friday is the 159th all-time meeting between the two sides. Tulane holds a 97-61 all-time series lead.
Â
TULANEÂ WINS BIG
The Green Wave have enjoyed back-to-back series wins over ranked opponents in Louisiana Tech and Mississippi State. Tulane has put together a 4-2 record over ranked counterparts. The Tulane hitters have been red hot and have scored 51 combined runs in their last five games.Â
Â
Redshirt sophomore outfielder Ethan Groff is the reigning AAC player of the week. Groff hit .647 with 10 runs scored and eight RBI in five games. Groff is the first Greenie to be back-to-back AAC Player of the Week since Kody Hoese in April of 2019.
Â
The hottest member of the Green Wave pitching staff of late is freshman righty Grant Siegel. Siegel is one of 14 players in division one college baseball with a 0.00 ERA in double-digit innings pitched. The righty also accounts for a team-leading five appearances and 12 punch outs second only to the 14 from Dylan Carmouche.
Â
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Southern Miss has had a comparable start to the year after winning eight of their 11 games thus far this season. Most recently, the Golden Eagles picked up a series win from ULL going 2-1 on the weekend. They also pulled out a 7-5 win over South Alabama on Tuesday.Â
Â
Junior outfielder Reece Ewing has started in all 11 games this season. He leads the lineup with a .359 average and 11 runs on 14 hits. Â
