Baseball Suffers 7-2 Loss to Southern Miss
Mar 9, 2022 | Baseball
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Tulane University baseball team suffered its third loss of the 2022 campaign Wednesday night, as it dropped a 7-2 decision to Southern Miss inside Pete Taylor Park on Hill Denson Field.
Â
Tulane collected five hits and left four on the bases. In the end, their performance couldn't hold on to that of Southern Miss.
Â
Southern Miss struck first, as it plated three runs in the bottom of the second, but the Green Wave responded with a run in the top half of the fourth thanks to a throwing error from the Golden Eagles which scored sophomore Bennett Lee, who reached base thanks to a fielder's choice.
Â
Sophomore Ethan Groff and redshirt junior Jared Hart would each pick up a pair of hits while sophomore Chase Engelhard would add a double in the top of the ninth.
Â
Tulane threatened to score in the eighth, as it put a runner in scoring position, but that was as close as it would get after Southern Miss pitchers retired 14 of the next 17 Green Wave batters.
Â
Graduate student Carter Robinson suffered the loss and dropped to 1-1 on the year after he worked 5.1 innings, struck out four and gave up three earned runs.
Â
Southern Miss's Tanner Hall picked up the win for the Golden Eagles after he went 8.0 innings and struck out eight batters.
