Tulane Baseball Drops Opener in Houston

HOUSTONÂ - The Tulane University baseball team suffered its first opening series loss of in over a month on Thursday night, as it dropped a 6-3 decision to Houston inside Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.

Tulane out hit Houston 11-8, but in the end, the Green Wave were unable to overcome the Cougar's offensive surges in the second and fifth innings as the Cougars plated three runs on two hits and two runs on two hits, respectively.

Houston struck first, as it plated a run in the bottom of the first, but the Green Wave responded with a run in the top half of the second thanks to a solo home run by freshman Jackson Linn.
Â
Redshirt sophomore Ethan Groff, freshman Brady Marget and sophomore Chase Engelhard joined Linn as they each collected multiple hits.

Tulane threatened to score in the ninth, as it put a runner in scoring position, but that was as close as it would get as the game would end on a double play.

Freshman right-hander Grant Siegel suffered the loss and dropped to 6-1 on the year after he gave up five earned runs across 4.0 innings of work while striking out one and walking two.

Houston's Jaycob Deese picked up the win for the Cougars after he went 7.0 innings and struck out two batters.

The Wave returns to action on Friday with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. The series finale on Saturday will begin at 1 p.m.
