Tulane Women’s Tennis Earns First-Round Bye in AAC Championship
Apr 18, 2022 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's tennis team landed as the No. 5 seed in the American Athletic Conference Championship, the league announced Monday. As the fifth seed, the Green Wave has a bye to the quarterfinals of the tournament on Thursday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Green Wave finished the regular season with a 12-8 record closing out the year in the win column Friday, April 15, with a 4-1 win on the road over South Alabama.

Tulane is set to square off against the No. 4 seed Memphis Tigers with a trip to the semifinals on the line Thursday afternoon. The Wave and the Tigers faced off just over a week ago in Memphis with Tulane losing the match 4-2 on April 10. Despite dropping the previous matchup this season, the Green Wave still holds a 4-3 advantage in matches against the Tigers.
With a victory over Memphis in the quarterfinals, Tulane would improve to 4-6 in the AAC Championship. A win would also send the Wave to its second semifinal appearance in the tournament. The last time Tulane reached the semifinals came in 2015 when the tournament was also held in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Wave's ranked pairing of Lahari Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell continues to pace Tulane in doubles action this season. The duo landed at No. 67 in the last week's ITA rankings and holds a 14-2 record this spring. In singles play, the Green Wave is led by Russell with a 12-4 record while Yelamanchili follows closely behind at 11-5 on the year.
The match between the Green Wave and the Tigers is set for noon CT on Thursday from the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
