Tulane Tops the AAC with Series Win Over ECU

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University baseball team (26-14-1; 8-4) cruised to a 10-5 victory over East Carolina University (24-17; 7-3) on Sunday afternoon inside Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

The Green Wave offense exploded on Sunday, scoring in all but one inning of the ball game against last season's AAC regular-season champions. Tulane ended ECU's 19 long series win streak, which dated back to 2019. This weekend's win marks the first series victory over ECU in the Travis Jewett era.

With the win, Tulane now jumps one game over ECU to top the AAC standings with an 8-4 conference record.

Third-baseman Brady Hebert had three hits and three RBI, while picking up his second and third home runs of the season.

"It felt really good, "Hebert said. "I was seeing the ball well all weekend and I just happened to run into two of them. It was good to see these guys doing the same thing as well."

Freshman Michael Massey took the hill for the Wave and allowed one earned run while striking out three over five innings of work all after giving up a home run on the second pitch of the game.

The Pirates Jake Hunter got his second loss of the season by giving up three earned runs on two hits over 1.2 innings of work.

Senior Luis Aviles sparked the offensive surge with a two-run homer to right-center in the bottom of the first. Groff came into score on the home run after being hit by the previous pitch giving the Wave a 2-1 lead.

Hebert would add another run with his first home run of the day in the bottom of the second. Chase Engelhard sent a single back up the middle to score Aviles.

Groff got in on the hit party extending his hit streak to nine games with a home run to dead center putting the Wave up by three. Tulane would score two in the bottom of the fifth off an error and a fielder's choice from Chase Engelhard.

Tulane got an RBI from Bennet Lee with a double down the right-field line. Before Hebert capped off the day with his second home run in the bottom of the seventh.

ECU went on the get one back in the next frame bringing the score final at 10-5.

UP NEXT: Tulane will travel to South Alabama to take on the Jaguars in a mid-week dual on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:30 pm.
