
Garza, Whittington Ink with Green Wave

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University women's basketball program announced the newest additions to its roster, as head coach Lisa Stockton shared that All-Sun Belt guard Kyren Whittington and Oklahoma State transfer Tori Garza will join the Green Wave beginning in the fall of 2022.
"Both guards will be excellent additions to our 2022-23 roster," Coach Stockton said.
Whittington joins the Green Wave program after playing the last two seasons at Louisiana-Monroe. She will have three years of eligibility remaining.
"Kyren had an impressive season in the Sun Belt Conference," Stockton stated. "She is an athletic combo guard who has an ability to score."
This past season, she was tabbed third team All-Sun Belt as she led the Warhawks in scoring with 410 points and finished second on the team with 40 assists. She scored in double figures 21 times and finished with 20 or more points in six games including a career-high 27 in the regular season finale against Georgia State. The Folsom, Louisiana, native finished the season fifth in the SBC in scoring averaging 15.8 points per contest for ULM.
For her career, Whittington played in 35 games, including 25 starts, with the Warhawks and tallied 450 points (12.9 avg.) with 111 rebounds (3.2 avg.). She additionally recorded 35 steals in 35 games at ULM. Whittington also finished with double figures in scoring 23 times in her career, including six games with at least 23 points.
Garza comes to Uptown after playing her freshman season (2021-22) with the Oklahoma State Cowgirls and she will have three years of eligibility remaining. The New Caney, Texas native played in 12 games last season for the Cowgirls.
"We are excited to get Tori to Tulane," Coach Stockton said. "She was a focus of our 2020 recruiting class. She is an outstanding shooter and playmaker."
Prior to joining OSU, the 6'1" forward scored 1,936 points during her prep career at New Caney averaging 16.0 points per game along with 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 seals. Garza was named District MVP and was tabbed a three-star recruit by ESPN HoopGurlz following her senior season. As a junior she earned District Offensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Montgomery County selection. Garza also made an immediate impact in her prep career being named the District Newcomer of the Year as a freshman.
