Tulane Baseball Shuts Out USF in Game Two Victory
Apr 9, 2022 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University baseball team (22-9-1) defeated the University of South Florida (18-13) in a 6-0 ballgame on Saturday afternoon inside Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Dylan Carmouche silenced USF's bats in the second shutout of the year for the Green Wave to clinch the series. Tulane issued zero walks and was boosted by five RBIs from a pair of freshmen, powering the club to a commanding win.
"I thought holistically, today was the cleanest we have played all year," head coach Travis Jewett said. "We threw strikes, our defense was engaged and made all the plays."
Carmouche, a sophomore, took the hill for Tulane and pitched seven shutout innings. The left-hander struck out seven and allowed just five hits and no walks.
"I felt like I was more prepared this week," Carmouche said. "I feel like most of my runs are from walks and I was able to limit those today."
Junior Brad Lord started for USF and allowed six runs, three earned, on nine hits over five innings.
Tulane wasted no time getting on the board, scoring twice in the bottom of the first thanks to RBI hits from a pair of Green Wave freshmen Jackson Linn and Brady Marget.
The Wave played solid defense all game, but Jared Hart made the play of the day with a running catch at the wall to rob USF of extra bases in the top of the third.
The Green Wave extended its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an RBI-groundout by Hart.
Linn collected another RBI in the bottom of the fifth when he lined a single to center, scoring Groff. Marget followed Linn with a two-run single, his third hit of the day, extending the lead to 6-0.
"I felt good last weekend against Memphis and I was able to use that confidence today to get myself a couple knocks and a couple RBIs," Marget said.
Tyler Hoffman relieved Carmouche and pitched two clean innings to preserve the lead and secure the win.
UP NEXT: The series finale is at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday inside GFATS.
