NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's tennis doubles team of junior Lahari Yelamanchili and sophomore Charlotte Russell begin the 2022 NCAA Division I Doubles Championship Tuesday in Champaign, Illinois. Yelamanchili and Russell will take on the duo of Amelia Rajecki and Abigail Rencheli from North Carolina State in the Round of 32.
The NCAA Doubles Championship is being hosted by the University of Illinois at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex. Tulane's Yelamanchili and Russell will take the court Tuesday for their Round of 32 match against Rajecki and Rencheli of NC State.
Yelamanchili and Russell are the first duo from Tulane to be selected for nationals since Maria and Darya Ivanov in 2005. The pair earned an automatic bid from the American Athletic Conference as the 31st-ranked doubles team in the nation in the latest ITA rankings. The duo was outstanding for the Green Wave all season, boasting 23-6 overall record, including a 14-3 mark during the spring. In the three times they battled other nationally ranked pairs, they went 2-1 with wins over the No. 48 ranked pair in Auburn's Selin Ovunc and Ariana Arseneault and the No. 78 ranked duo in North Texas' Lucie Devier and Maria Ponomareva.
The NC State Wolfpack pairing, Rencheli and Rajecki, ranked as high as 18th nationally during dual match play and checked in at No. 25 in the most recent rankings. They have put together a six-match winning streak that started with a March 20 victory over the nation's 13th-ranked duo.
All matches will be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
