Cross Country Takes on the Live in Lou Classic in Louisville, Ky.
Sep 30, 2022 | Cross Country
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Tulane University men's and women's cross country teams return to the course on Saturday for the 21st annual Live in Lou Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park, hosted by Louisville.
"We're excited to have a strong mid-season benchmark for the program this weekend in Louisville," director of cross country/track & field Adrian Myers said. "It's that time of the year where we begin to feel a little tired, maybe catch some colds and work through the aches."
The Green Wave will compete in the first two races of the day, starting with the men's 8000m Gold Race at 9:30 a.m., with the women's 5000m Gold Race following at 10:15 a.m.
In a highly-competitive field, Tulane will face a total of 35 universities that will be represented in the men's gold race and 44 universities in the women's gold race.
"We know that, after this weekend, we really start the specific prep needed to contend at a high level in our conference, region, as well as potentially nationally," Myers said. "This might be the best field we will see this year as well."
Aaron Gilliam, Bradley Makuvire, Evans Kipchumba, Kyle Johnson and Arturs Lapins highlight the Tulane men's team. Mackenzie Callahan, Danna Diaz, Sophia McNerney, Harper Shaw and Macy Turcotte look to dominate from the women's side.
Tulane's top runners had nearly three weeks off from competition and look for a strong return.
"Our goal this weekend is to learn some things," Myers said. "We want to race 'conservatively aggressive' and see what happens. Meaning we put ourselves out there a bit, but also walk away knowing what we could work on. Sometimes you get in a big race like this, just hammer from the gun, fall apart and learn nothing. We are growing together as a building program and want to continue to gain momentum into October."
