Green Wave Visits Houston for Sunday Matinee

HOUSTON – Tulane University Women's Basketball (13-8, 3-5) looks to return to the win column as it squares off against Houston (7-13, 4-3) on the road Sunday afternoon. The matchup between the Green Wave and the Cougars is set to tipoff at 1 p.m. from the Fertitta Center.

This marks the 52nd all-time meeting between Tulane and Houston with the Green Wave leading the series 31-20. Tulane has lost the last two matchups against Houston including the first meeting this season 56-59. The last time the Green Wave beat the Cougars was February 20 at home last season 76-72. The Wave holds a 14-9 record on the road against Houston including a 64-59 victory last season.

In its last time out, Tulane fell 59-68 at home against Temple on Wednesday. Kyren Whittington led all scorers in the contest with season-high 26 points to go along with three assists, a pair of steals, and a career-best six made threes. Marta Galic and Anijah Grant both scored double figures as well for the Green Wave finishing with 10 points each.

Three players are averaging double figures in scoring for the Green Wave this season. Galic leads the team with 13.7 points per contest. Whittington follows with 12.7 points per game while Dynah Jones posts 11.9 points per game. Galic is second the AAC and ranks 30th nationally in three-pointers per game with 2.76.

Tulane ranks second in the league in assists per game (16.6) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.04). Hakes leads the league in assists (112) and assists per game (5.3).

Houston enters the matchup with an 7-13 overall record and a 4-3 mark in league play after defeating Cincinnati 63-39 on the road on Wednesday. The Cougars are sixth in the AAC in scoring with 65.8 points per game and sixth in scoring defense allowing 63.2 points per contest. Houston leads the league and ranks second nationally in steals per game with 13.5. The Cougars also lead the conference in three-point percentage defense holding opponents to 25.3-percent shooting from downtown.

Following the matchup with the Cougars, the Green Wave will be back in Uptown to host the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday. Tipoff between Tulane and Cincinnati is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
