
Green Wave Welcomes Cougars for AAC Showdown

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Women's Basketball (10-4, 0-1) will look to pick up its first American Athletic Conference victory of the season as it hosts the Houston Cougars (4-10, 1-0) inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse on Thursday. The matchup between the Green Wave and the Cougars is set to tipoff at 6 p.m.

This marks the 51st all-time meeting between Tulane and Houston with the Wave leading the series 31-19. The Green Wave went 2-1 against the Cougars last season including a 76-72 win at home on February 20. Tulane lost the last matchup 57-65 in the quarterfinals of the AAC Tournament on March 8.

In its last time out, Tulane opened conference play with a 61-69 loss to South Florida at home on Friday. Four players scored double figures for the Green Wave with Dynah Jones leading the way with 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting to go with five assists. Anijah Grant posted a career-high 15 points against the Bulls to help her earn AAC Weekly Honor Roll selection on Monday.

Three players are averaging double figures in scoring for the Green Wave this season. Marta Galic leads the team with 14.1 points per contest. Jones follows with 13.3 points per game while Kyren Whittington posts 11.3 points per game. Galic leads the American Athletic Conference and ranks fourth nationally in three-pointers per game with 3.14.

Tulane leads the AAC in assists per game (17.5) and ranks second in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.10). Rachel Hakes leads the league in assists (82), assists per game (5.9), and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.56).

Houston enters the matchup with an 4-10 overall record and a 1-0 mark in league play following a 60-44 win at home over SMU in its conference-opener on December 30. The Cougars are averaging 67.2 points per game on 36.4 percent shooting this season. Houston shines defensively leading the AAC and ranking fourth nationally in steals per game with 14.1. Unanimous Preseason All-Conference First Team selection Laila Blair leads Houston in scoring and ranks third in the conference with 15.7 points per game. Houston was selected to finish second in the American Preseason Coaches' Poll and received two first place votes.

Following the matchup with the Cougars, the Green Wave will travel to Greenville, North Carolina, for its first road league contest against East Carolina. Tipoff between Tulane and the Pirates is set for 1 p.m. CT.
