No. 22 Bowling Returns Home To Host Colonial Lanes Classic This Weekend

New Orleans – After a successful start to the season in Texas, the No. 22 ranked Tulane University bowling team is set to return home and play host to the Colonial Lanes Classic starting this Friday at 9:45 a.m. at Colonial Lanes in Harahan. The tournament starts at 8:55 a.m. on Saturday and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The list of other teams at the tournament includes Alabama A&M, RV Alabama State, No. 14 (in the Division II and Division III) Emmanuel, Florida A&M, Jackson State, No. 10 Louisiana Tech, No. 4 North Carolina A&T, RV Oklahoma Christian, Prairie View A&M, No. 8 Sam Houston State, Southern, No. 5 Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern, RV UAB and No. 12 Maryland Eastern Shore.
The first day of competition will be five (5) five-game baker matches with total pins being the goal. In the lane pairings, Tulane will start match one in lanes 15-16 against Southern. In match two, the program takes on UAB in lanes 19-20. In the third match, Tulane and Alabama State square off in lanes 5-6. The fourth match sees the Green Wave against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in lanes 7-8. The fifth match is a Tulane and Emmanuel matchup in lanes 9-10. As a note to anyone watching the video from home, lanes 15-20 will be the ones most visible on the stream
The second day of the tournament on Saturday is a format of five (5) traditional team games. Tulane begins the second day against Florida A&M on lanes 13-14. The second match of the day and the seventh match overall features Tulane and North Carolina A&T in lanes 17-18. In the third match of the day and the eighth match overall, the Green Wave and Prairie View A&M are competing in lanes 21-22. In the fourth match of the day and the ninth match overall, Tulane and Jackson State are in lanes 7-8. In the fifth match of the day and the 10th overall, the Green Wave and Sam Houston State are in lanes 15-16.
On the third day, teams will compete in three rounds of match play in a playoff bracket. Each of the rounds in match play will be a best-of-seven baker match.
The playoff rounds will be seeded using overall total pin fall standings after the qualifying round (day one) is completed. The higher seed has the choice of starting lane for the first baker game with one exception. The exception is if the match goes to a single deciding baker game, the higher seed has the choice.
The first, second and third place teams will be awarded the team awards.
The five individuals that accumulate the highest pin fall totals during the traditional team games will earn a position on the all-tournament team. The MVP award is given to the individual with the highest tournament average.
Last weekend at the SWIBC Tournament, Tulane split the squad into both a varsity and a junior varsity grouping in order to allow all 10 bowlers to compete. The varsity team placed third overall on Saturday with 7248 pins, while the junior varsity placed second with 6588 pins. On Sunday both the varsity and junior varsity finished as the runner-up. The varsity totaled 7021 pins, while the junior varsity tallied 6405 pins. Tulane saw a pair of bowlers make the SWIBC All-Tournament Team as Morgan Gitlitz placed fourth overall on Saturday with her 1,040 pins and 208 average in five games and Mia Stolakis earned fifth with her 1,031 pins and 206.2 average. On Saturday all 10 of Tulane's bowlers finished among the top-30. Kristen Derr led the Tulane effort on Sunday with her 1,452 pins and average of 207.43 in seven games. Emma Fetterman (1,440 pins and 205.71 average) and Katharina Mente (1,453 pins and 204.7 average) both placed among the top-10 on Sunday. Gitlitz led Tulane in the team's 12 games with her 2,444 pins and 203.6 average. Kristen Derr had the highest individual game with her 266 on Sunday.
This year's Tulane roster features six returners in Morgan Gitlitz, Yarelis Alvarez, Sofiia Druchyna, Katharina Mente, Mia Stolakis, Cassidy Williams plus four newcomers in Juanelyz Solla, Emma Fetterman, Kristen Derr and Linnea Holcomb.
For the completed 2022-23 season, Morgan Gitlitz led the team with 7,992 total pins. Amelia Vasquez had the highest average on the squad at 195.8, while Mia Stolakis recorded the highest individual performance with her 266 against UMES (10/15). Tulane sported an overall 71-49 record on the campaign. The program also finished the season ranked No. 22 nationally.
Next, the program travels to Orlando, Florida to participate in the Destination Orlando Tournament from Oct. 27-29. The tournament is being hosted by Sacred Heart University
