
Tulane Men Win Arturo Barrios Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Behind three top-10 finishers the Tulane men's cross country team secured its second meet victory of the season placing first in the Arturo Barrios Invitational hosted by Texas A&M. The Green Wave women's team placed 13th in a loaded field at the meet on Friday.
The Wave men's team finished with a total team score of 103 to win the meet by 10 points after posting an average 8K time of 23:38. Bradley Makuvire led the Green Wave as he came up just shy of repeating as the individual winner, but still managed to set the Tulane men's 8K record running a 23:04.8 to finish second. His performance surpassed the time posted by Emmanuel Rotich (23:19.9) at the Stanford Cross Country Invitational in 2016.
Illia Kunin and Jack Jennings also placed in the top 10 of the men's meet as Kunin landed ninth with a time of 23:23.2 and Jennings finished 10th with a time of 23:29.5. The top five for the Green Wave was rounded out by Ryan Adkins in 35th (24:02.6) and Alan Deogracias III in 47th (24:10.9).
Tulane recorded one more finish in the top 100 at the meet as Arturs Lapins finished 99th with a final time of 24:39.3.
Gemma Rebollo paced the Green Wave in the women's 6K as she broke the Tulane 6K record by recording a 19:58.3 to finish 12th. Her record setting run surpassed the performance of Katrina Gemmell (20:26.7) at the Conference USA Championship in 2001.
Rolling in next for Tulane were Danna Diaz (20:18.6) and Lily Bell (20:19.1) finishing back-to-back in 27th and 28th, respectively. Paula Vaquera also posted a top-100 time as she ran a 21:01.2 to land 83rd to help the Wave finish 13th as a team with 295 points.
Up next, Tulane will travel to Greenville, North Carolina, for the AAC Cross Country Championships hosted by East Carolina on Saturday, October 28.
