Burks Named American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year
Nov 28, 2023 | Women's Volleyball
Tulane freshman outside hitter, Avery Burks, earned American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year honors on Tuesday, as announced by the conference office.ย
This marks the first time that a Tulane volleyball player has ever been named the AAC freshman of the year. The last time a Green Wave volleyball player won a similar accolade was 10 years ago in 2013, when Tea Juric earned the distinction of Conference USA Freshman of the Year.
Burks consistently spearheaded the Green Wave's offensive efforts throughout the season, culminating a total of 363 kills and an average of 3.29 kills per set. Hailing from Gilbert, AZ, her prowess ensured her place in the top 10 in the conference for kills per set and points per set throughout the entire season.
Beyond her offensive contributions, Burks showcased her all-around skills by finishing second on the team in total digs with 279 and securing the fourth spot in assisted blocks, concluding her freshman campaign with 47 blocks.
