
Green Wave Hosts Northwestern State Thursday Night

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball will look to start the season 2-0 for the fifth consecutive season as it welcomes Northwestern State inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse on Thursday. Â

The game between the Green Wave and the Demons is set to tipoff at 6 p.m. on ESPN+. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 104.1 The Spot with the voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This marks the ninth all-time meeting between Tulane and Northwestern State with the Green Wave leading the series 5-3. The Wave holds a 3-1 advantage in games against the Demons in Uptown including a 79-52 victory in the last matchup on November 16, 2019, in New Orleans.

In its last time out, the Green Wave won its fifth-straight season opener by defeating Nicholls 91-81 in Fogelman in Devlin on Monday night. Four players scored in double figures for Tulane with sophomore transfer Kolby King leading the way with 22 points. Sion James and Collin Holloway also finished with 20-plus points tallying 21 and 20, respectively. Kevin Cross recorded his first double-double of the season and the ninth in his career with 18 points and 14 boards.

Northwestern State enters the matchup with a 1-0 record under first year head coach Rick Cabrera after beating Dallas Christian 101-54 on Monday. The Demons return only one letterman and no scholarship players from the 2022-23 season but were picked to finish fifth in the Southland Conference after finishing second last year.

This season, Tulane welcomes back eight letter winners, including three starters in Cross, James, and Jaylen Forbes. Forbes and Cross earned preseason All-AAC honors with Forbes being a unanimous first team selection and Cross landing on the all-conference second team. Tulane was voted to finish third in the league this season behind Florida Atlantic and Memphis.

Tulane's core of returners will be complimented by a five transfers and pair of freshmen. The newcomers are highlighted by impact transfers Gregg Glenn III from Michigan and King from St. John's.

Last season the Green Wave had its most successful season in the Ron Hunter era. Tulane finished with 12 conference wins, its most since joining the American Athletic Conference, and 12 wins at home, the most since 2013-14. It also marked the first season the Wave tallied 20 victories since the 2012-13 season.
