Tulane Baseball Suffers 11-4 Setback To UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - The Tulane University baseball team (0-2) suffered its second loss of the 2023 campaign Saturday afternoon, as it dropped a 11-4 decision to the University of California Irvine (2-0) inside Cicerone Field at Anteater Park.

UCI struck first, as it plated four runs on four hits in the bottom of the second. The Green Wave responded with two runs in the top half of the third thanks to an RBI walk by sophomore Gavin Schulz which scored senior Seth Beckstead, who reached base thanks to a leadoff walk. Senior Simon Baumgradt would also come around to score on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Brady Marget. UCI added another run in the bottom of the frame.

The cat and mouse game would continue for most of the game. Sophomore Jackson Linn scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth and redshirt freshman Tracy Mitchem drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the seventh to put the Green Wave within two.

Redshirt junior Cristian Sanchez suffered the loss and dropped to 0-1 on the year after he worked 2.2 innings, struck out one, gave up five earned runs and walked four.

UC Irvine's Andre Antone picked up the win for the Anteaters after he went 2.1 innings and struck out four batters.
