Green Wave Wraps Regular Season at Memphis Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Women's Basketball (17-11, 7-8) will go for its fifth straight American Athletic Conference win as it wraps up the regular season at Memphis (18-9, 10-4) Wednesday night. The matchup between the Green Wave and the Tigers is set to tipoff at7 p.m. CT from the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

This marks the 56th all-time meeting between Tulane and Memphis with the Green Wave trailing the series 26-29. Tulane swept the season series against the Tigers last season winning 81-74 at home and 76-74 in Memphis. The Wave holds an 11-15 record on the road against the Tigers including wins in the last two meetings in Uptown and three of the last four.

In its last time out, Tulane won its fourth consecutive game on Saturday defeating East Carolina at home 64-56. Kyren Whittington led the Green Wave in scoring with 17 points to go with six rebounds and three steals. Whittington's performance against the Pirates earned her selection to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season.

Three players are averaging double figures in scoring for the Green Wave this season. Dynah Jones leads the team with 12.4 points per contest. Marta Galic follows with 12.3 points per game while Whittington posts 11.8 points per contest. Galic is third the AAC and ranks 56th nationally in three-pointers made this season with 67.

Paced by Rachel Hakes who leads the conference in assists per game with 4.9 and total assists at 137, Tulane ranks third as a team in the league in assists per game at 15.2.

Memphis enters the matchup second in the conference and riding a six-game win streak after defeating SMU 69-68 on the road in overtime Sunday. The Tigers lead the conference in free throw attempts per game (22.0) and offensive rebounds per game (16.3). Memphis is second in the league overall in rebounding averaging 42.7 boards per game. Jamirah Shutes leads the Tigers in scoring with 14.9 points per game. Shutes also leads the team and the conference in free throws attempted (151) and made (110).
Following the matchup with the Memphis, the Green Wave will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, for the 2023 AAC Championship. The tournament will be hosted at Dickies Arena from Monday-Thursday, March 6-9.
