NEW ORLEANS – Tulane's baseball team (2-12), after trailing by as large of a deficit as nine runs, nearly rallied all the way back with six runs over the two innings before falling to No. 24 Campbell (10-2) by a final margin of 13-11 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Chandler Welch (0-1) started and was the pitcher of record for Tulane. After 2.1 innings of work, he was relieved by five members of the Tulane staff. The pitching of sophomore Blake Mahmood highlighted the relievers. The righty worked two innings and surrendering just two hits and a walk.

The offensive leader for Tulane was senior center fielder Brady Hebert. The leadoff hitter went 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored. He also drove in three on a two-run double and a solo home run. Brayden Morrow picked up three RBIs. Jackson Linn had a pair of hits to go along with two runs scored and two RBIs. The Green Wave sported a balanced attack with nine players tallying hits. The team also walked 11 times and were hit by five pitches.

The Campbell offense was led by Bryce Arnold's three hits and five RBIs. Drake Pierson recorded two hits and three RBIs. Jeremy Wiegman (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Fighting Camels with 2.1 unscored upon innings of work.

Campbell scored early on a three-run home run in the top of the opening frame. Although Tulane was forced to play catch up from the get-go, it never let down and managed to keep within striking distance of its ranked opponent.

Each team scored in five different innings. The Camels managed to do most of their damage via the home run with the long ball accounting for 10 of their 13 runs scored.

The late rally from the Olive and Blue started in the bottom of the eighth with a solo shot from Hebert. Following the blast, Brennan Lambert and Brady Marget both reached with back-to-back hits. A fielder's choice error from the visitor's shortstop allowed Lambert to score and Linn to reach base plus pick up an RBI. Morrow drove in the final two of the frame with a single to get the Green Wave to within four runs, 13-9.

In the bottom of the ninth the momentum continued as Tulane put up two runs on an RBI ground out from Morrow and a run-scoring single from Seth Beckstead to draw to 13-11 with the bases loaded and two outs before a strikeout ended the rally and the game.

UP NEXT: Tulane will host Penn this weekend in a three-game series. The games will be Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
