
Track & Field Women's Program Have Highest Conference Placing Since 2016

The two programs earned six medals on the last day of the AAC Outdoor Championships including an event victory for Janae Dean
Tampa, Florida – In a day full of exciting and noteworthy moments and a weekend full of high points, Janae Dean's victory in the women's 800m was the one that stood out the most on the third and final day of the 2023 AAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday. The two Tulane squads also totaled six medal achieving performances on the afternoon and nine on the weekend. The women's program earned 63 points for sixth place, while the men took eighth place with 26 points. The Tulane women's sixth-place finish was the highest for the program since 2016 and the second highest for the program since joining the AAC. The two programs had 15 top-10 placings on the day.
Dean's 800m event victory was in a time of 2:06.76. The run ranks her third all-time at Tulane and picked up 10 team points for the program. It was the first event victory for the Tulane women during outdoor season since 2018 when Jessica Duckett won the 100m hurdles. Victoria Robinson placed third in this year's 800m with a 2:09.05. The run also captured six team points for Tulane.
Kara Steele earned All-AAC honors after placing third in the triple jump 12.72m/41'8.75". Kaia Todd took 19th with her 11.82m/38'9.50".
Mackenzie Callahan picked up her second All-AAC honor of the meet in finishing third in the women's 1,500m with a personal record time of 4:24.12. The mark also ranks her third all-time at Tulane and added six more points to Tulane's team total. Her teammate Reese Ragland placed ninth in the finals with her run of 4:34.12.
Aaron Gilliam earned All-AAC honors after finishing third in the men's 1,500m with his personal-record time of 3:45.27. The run ranks him third all-time at Tulane in the event and added six more points to Tulane's team total.
Bradley Makuvire took third in the men's 5,000m to earn All-AAC honors. He ran a time of 14:07.28. Tucker Poshard took 12th with a 14:57.37. Gilliam finished 24th with a 15:31.01. Donie Devane ranked 26th with a 15:39.62. Adam Aldahir took 29th with a 15:48.50.
Roman Schrader finished fifth in the men's 800m with a personal-record of 1:50.93. His run also is the fifth fastest ever for Tulane in the event. Additionally, the run picked up four team points for the program.
Kristina Leggas started the day for Tulane in finishing sixth in the pole vault with a 3.82m/12'6.25" to earn three team points. Kate Sander took ninth with a 3.67m/12'0.50". Megan Fitzgerald was 10th with her vault of 3.67m/12'0.50". Cosette Fleury ranked 15th with a 3.37m/11'0.75".
In the women's discus, Maren Butler placed ninth with 43.80m/143'8". Norah Bice earned 13th with a 36.32m/119'2". Bella Gonzalez took 14th with her 34.66m/113'8". Alyssa Dismuke finished 16th with a 33.83m/111'0".
The men's 400m relay team of Francisco Roman III, Jalen St. Fort, Bethwel Tum and Adam Aldahir ran a 49.94 to finished eighth and earned a team point.
The women's 4x400m relay team placed ninth with a 3:51.55. The listed members on the team were Abigail Heck, Robinson, Alexis Esteves, Laura Fodor and Margot Temines.
The men's 4x400m relay team ranked eighth with a time of 3:21.38 for the team's final point. The listed members of the squad were Zander Dunbar, Jalen St. Fort, Roman Schrader, Bethwel Tum and Francisco Roman III.
Olivia Hicks finished 16th in the women's high jump with her leap of 1.58m/5'2.25".
Allison Nelson placed 22nd in the women's 5,000m with an 18:00.84.
Next, Tulane will send a qualifying group to the NCAA East Preliminaries from May 24-27 in Jacksonville, Fla. at Hodges Stadium.
