
Track & Field Sending Four To NCAA East Regionals

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane outdoor track & field program is back in action and on the road this week as the program sends a delegation of four student-athletes to the 2023 NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla. from May 24-27. The Green Wave will have one participant on both Wednesday and Thursday and then two on Saturday. All three days will be broadcasted live on ESPN+.
Bradley Makuvire participates in the semifinals of the 10,000m at 8:10 p.m. CDT on Wednesday. He comes in ranked No. 15 in the East Region in the 10,000m from his 28:50.61 run achieved at the Mt SAC Relays on April 13. He is also No. 45 in the East Region in the 5,000m with his 13:57.67 run achieved at the Raleigh Relays on March 23. His time in both events is a school record. He has elected to just participate in the 10,000m in his bid to finish among the top 12 to make the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Maren Butler competes in the first round of the shot put at 5 p.m. CDT on Thursday. She is placed No. 35 in the East Region in the shot put from her 15.65m throw achieved at the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Track and Field Championships on May 13. The throw also ranks her second all-time at Tulane in the event.
Tulane will have a pair of competitors on Saturday. Mackenzie Callahan competes in the 3,000m steeplechase at 4:40 p.m. CDT. She enters the meet ranked No. 37 in the East Region from her 10:24.50 run achieved at the Drake Relays on April 26. Her time is the best-ever at Tulane in the event. Kara Steele is the final competitor for Tulane on the weekend as she takes flight as part of the triple jump at 5 p.m. CDT. She is ranked No. 42 in the East Region in the event with her 12.72m leap achieved at the AAC Track and Field Championships on May 13.

The Tulane also has five athletes that are ranked among the top-10 in the South Central Region in Bradley Makuvire – 5th – men's 10,000m, Arturs Lapins - 7th – men's 3000m steeplechase, Mackenzie Callahan – 6th – women's 3000m steeplechase, Kristen O'Handley – 4th – Heptathlon and Margot Temines – 7th – Heptathlon.
Additionally, the program also has the third ranked Heptathlon event squad in the country.
Getting an automatic berth to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships from June 7-10 in Austin, Texas in the Heptathlon is Kristen O'Handley. O'Handley currently ranks No. 10 nationally in the event with her 5,802 points achieved at the Virginia Challenge on April 20. Her point total is the best in school history in the event. She was an NCAA Indoor All-American in the Pentathlon earlier in the spring with 4,277 points. Her point total is also the best-ever in the school record book. She will be joined at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships by any of her four teammates that finish in the top – 12 of their events at the East Regionals
