
Green Wave Hosts Rice to Open League Play Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball (9-3) will begin American Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night as it hosts new league member Rice (6-7) in Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave will look to start its league schedule in the win column for the first time since 2021-22 and the second time in the Ron Hunter era.

The game between the Green Wave and the Owls is set to tipoff at 8 p.m. on ESPNU. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 104.1 The Spot with the Voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This marks the 52nd all-time meeting between the Green Wave and the Owls with Tulane leading the series 27-24. Tulane has won the last three meeting with the latest victory coming on January 18, 2014, 58-41 in New Orleans. The Wave leads the series 18-8 in games played in New Orleans and has not lost at home to the Owls since January 14, 2012.

In its last time out, Tulane shot past Dillard 94-64 on December 29 to finish non-conference play with a 9-4 record. Kolby King and Jaylen Forbes led the Green Wave with 22 points each and all 13 players that entered the contest found the scoring column including Max Bowman who scored his first career points for the Wave.

King earned his first selection to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll after recording his first career double-double in the win over Dillard. King matched his career-high with 22 points and tallied a career-best 10 assists while also notching his ninth multi-steal game of the season with a pair of steals.

At home so far this season Tulane is averaging 93.9 points per game on 52.5 percent shooting from the floor. The Green Wave is 7-1 in Uptown with a +17.6-scoring margin as opponents average 76.3 points on 41.1 percent shooting. The Wave also tallies an average of 18.4 assists and 10.6 steals in games played in Uptown.

Rice enters the matchup with a 6-7 record after dropping their last non-conference contest 84-67 at home to Louisiana-Lafayette on December 22. The Owls are 1-2 so far this season on the road with their lone victory coming at Northwestern State 76-51 on December 16.

The Owls are led by a trio of players averaging double figures in scoring. Travis Evee leads the team with 16.5 points per game on 43.1 percent shooting from the field. Mekhi Mason follows with 12.5 points per game and Max Fiedler posts 10.1 points per game.

Following the matchup with the Owls, the Green Wave will travel to Denton, Texas, to face North Texas for its first road conference game on Saturday, January 6. The game between Tulane and the Mean Green will tipoff at 1 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
