
Green Wave Visits UTSA Wednesday Night

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball (12-6, 3-3) will look to maintain its momentum after defeating No. 10 Memphis on Sunday as it visits a new American Athletic Conference in UTSA (7-12, 1-5) on Wednesday night in San Antonio. The Green Wave snapped a 53-game losing streak to ranked teams with its 81-79 victory over the Tigers in Uptown Sunday.
The game between the Green Wave and the Roadrunners is set to tipoff at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 104.1 The Spot with the Voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.
This marks the fourth all-time meeting between the Green Wave and the Roadrunners with Tulane leading the series 3-0. Tulane has not faced UTSA in San Antonio since 1982 - a 71-64 Wave victory in the first meeting between the two teams. The Green Wave defeated UTSA in New Orleans 68-56 in the latest matchup on February 22, 2014, as Conference USA foes.
In its last time out, Tulane defeated a top 25 team for the first time since 1999 by toppling the 10th-ranked Memphis Tigers 81-79 on Sunday. The win also marked the program's first win over a top 10 team since 1983 which also came against Memphis. Sion James led the Wave with a season-high 22 points to go with seven boards and six assists. Kevin Cross notched eighth 20-point game of the season scoring 21 points and adding seven boards, five assists, two blocks, and two steals.
James earned his second nod to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll this season on Monday after averaging 17.5 points on 52.4 percent shooting from the field and 50 percent from downtown. James also added six rebounds, four assists, and two steals per game in a 1-1 week for Tulane.
On the road this season Tulane holds a 2-2 record in true road games including a 1-2 mark in conference play. The Wave is averaging 77.0 points per game on 44.2 percent shooting while allowing opponents to average 80.3 points on 43.0 percent shooting on the road.
UTSA enters the matchup with a 7-12 record overall and a 1-5 record in league play after dropping their latest game to No. 24 FAU 112-103 in overtime at home on Sunday. The Roadrunners are 5-5 at home this this season including 0-3 in conference play averaging 80.2 points per game while allowing opponents to score 77.6 points at the Convocation Center.
After his eligibility was reinstated by the NCAA, Jordan Ivy-Curry leads UTSA in scoring averaging 19.4 points per game through his first nine games dating back to December 17. Christian Tucker and Dre Fuller Jr. follow as the only other Roadrunners averaging double figures with 13.1 and 10.2 points, respectively.
Following the matchup against UTSA, the Green Wave will return home to host another new member of the AAC as Charlotte will visit Uptown on Saturday, January 27. The game between Tulane and the 49ers is set to tipoff at 3 p.m. on ESPNU.
