Tulane Hits the Road to Face North Texas Saturday

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball (10-3, 1-0) will face its first road test of American Athletic Conference competition as it visits new league foe North Texas (8-5, 1-0) at The Super Pit on Saturday in Denton, Texas. The Green Wave will look to start conference play 2-0 for the first time since 2021-22 and the second time in the Ron Hunter era.

The game between the Green Wave and the Mean Green is set to tipoff at 1 p.m. on ESPNU. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 104.1 The Spot with the Voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This marks the third all-time meeting between the Green Wave and the Mean Green with Tulane leading the series 2-0. Tulane won both meetings in 2014 with the latest coming at the Conference USA tournament in El Paso, Texas, by a final score of 66-61 on March 12. The Wave defeated North Texas 73-62 on the road in the first matchup on January 11.

In its last time out, Tulane defeated Rice 84-59 to open American Athletic Conference play 1-0 for the first time since the 2021-22 season and the second time under Head Coach Ron Hunter. The Green Wave dominated the Owls in the paint outscoring Rice 46-18 around the rim. All five starters scored in double figures for the Wave led by Collin Holloway with 18 points and Kevin Cross with 16 points and 10 rebounds to record his 10th career double-double.

Away from home this season Tulane holds a 2-2 record including a 1-0 mark in true road games. The Green Wave is averaging 81.5 points on 47.9 percent shooting from the floor outside of Uptown. Tulane defeated Fordham 89-81 on December 3 in its only true road contest so far this season.

North Texas enters the matchup with an 8-5 record overall and a 1-0 record in league play after defeating Wichita State on the road in its first conference game 74-62 on Thursday. North Texas is unbeaten so far this season at home holding a 6-0 record in games played at The Super Pit. The Mean Green averages 79.0 points while allowing opponents to score 58.0 points at home this season.

The Mean Green is led by a trio of players averaging double figures in scoring. Jason Edwards leads the team with 15.4 points per game followed by Rubin Jones and Aaron Scott with 12.2 points per game. North Texas leads the league in scoring defense and ranks fourth nationally surrendering only 59.2 points per game.

Following the matchup with North Texas, the Green Wave will return home to host No. 17 Florida Atlantic in Uptown on Thursday, January 11. The game between Tulane and the Owls will tipoff at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
