Nov 4, 2024 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane men's basketball outscored Louisiana Christian by 22 points in the second half to win its sixth consecutive season-opener 76-42 over the Wildcats Monday night in Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave was powered by a stout defensive performance holding the Wildcats to 24.6 percent shooting from the field including just 6-of-29 in the second half.
With the victory, Tulane moved to 6-0 under Head Coach Ron Hunter in season openers with an average margin of victory of 16.5 points.
As a team the Wave connected at a 41.7 percent clip from the field and from beyond the arc. Tulane knocked down 10-of-24 from downtown led by four threes by Kaleb Banks. Defensively, the Green Wave recorded 10 blocks with three different players swatting two each.
Four players tallied double figures in scoring for the Green Wave led by Mari Jordan with 18 points. Jordan shot 7-of-12 from the field including a pair of threes while adding two blocks and two steals. Banks notched his first career double-double in his first game with the Wave posting 14 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Gregg Glenn III posted his second career game with double-digit points as he added 11 points to go with a pair of blocks. Rounding out the leaders for Tulane was Tyler Ringgold who poured in 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds off the bench.
The Green Wave and the Wildcats exchanged buckets over the first two minutes of the game until a three-pointer by Banks put Tulane in front for good with 17:35 on the clock. Tulane maintained its advantage throughout the half before closing the final four minutes on a 9-2 run to take a 33-21 advantage into the locker room.
A put-back dunk by Ringgold sparked the intensity on both ends of the floor for the Wave in the opening minute of the second half. Tulane locked in defensively holding Louisiana Christian to just six made field goal after halftime.
The Green Wave continued to find its rhythm offensively while shutting down the Wildcats on defense. An 8-0 scoring run capped by a steal and fast break dunk by Jordan pushed Tulane's lead to 23 with 4:13 remaining. The Wave kept building on to its advantage before ultimately closing out the 34-point victory at 76-42.
Up next, the Green Wave will host another in-state foe on Friday night as Louisiana-Monroe will visit Fogelman in Devlin. Tipoff between Tulane and the Warhawks is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
