Brumbaugh & Banks Lead Wave to 80-64 Win Over ULM
Nov 8, 2024 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – The transfer duo of Rowan Brumbaugh and Kaleb Banks powered Tulane men's basketball (2-0) to an 80-64 victory over Louisiana-Monroe (1-2) Friday night inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. Brumbaugh and Banks combined for 41 points to lead the Green Wave to its third consecutive 2-0 start.
With the win, Tulane improved to 2-1 all-time against the ULM Warhawks and 13-1 against teams from Louisiana under Head Coach Ron Hunter.
As a team the Green Wave shot 46.7 percent from the field while limiting the Warhawks to just 30.3 percent shooting overall including 24.2 percent in the first half. Tulane also notched its second game in a row with double digit three-pointers made knocking down 10-of-25 from beyond the arc. Points in the paint and second chance points also made a difference for the Wave in the contest as Tulane outscored ULM 36-16 around the rim and tallied 15 second chance points to just four for the Warhawks.
Four players finished with double figures in scoring led by Brumbaugh with 22 on 7-of-12 shooting including a career-high six made threes. The redshirt sophomore tallied 14 of his 22 points and knocked down four of his six threes in the second half. Banks continued his strong start to his first season in Uptown notching his second straight double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Rounding out the top performers for the Wave were Gregg Glenn III and Tyler Ringgold with 10 points each to mark their second consecutive game in double figures.
Tulane jumped on the Warhawks from the opening tipoff scoring the first seven points of the night and storming out to a 22-3 lead just over eight minutes into the game. The defense for the Green Wave flexed its muscles in the opening half holding ULM to 24 percent shooting from the floor and just 2-of-13 from downtown in the first half. After reaching its largest lead at 22 points (29-7) with 8:32 to play in the half, Tulane held on to take a 42-27 advantage into the locker room.
Banks led the charge for the Green Wave in the first half of action pouring in 15 points to go with eight rebounds. Brumbaugh also added eight first half points while Ringgold, Glenn III, and Kam Williams each posted five.
A 16-0 scoring run by the Wave early in the second half put Tulane in full control of the contest with its largest lead of the night at 60-29 with 15 minutes remaining. The Warhawks did not go down without a fight, however, answering with 14-straight points to pull back within 17.
Back-to-back threes from Asher Woods and Brumbaugh followed by a fast break layup from Ringgold squandered any comeback attempt by ULM putting the Green Wave in front by 25 with eight minutes left. Tulane continued to maintain its advantage down the stretch against the Warhawks to ultimate win the game 80-64.
Up next, the Tulane will conclude its season-opening homestand against Alcorn State on Monday, November 11. Tipoff between Tulane and the Braves is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
