NEW ORLEANS – Northwestern pitchers Nolan Moor and Garrett Shearer combined for a five-hit shutout of host Tulane in a 9-0 victory Friday evening at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Â
The game was the season opener for both schools.

Moore (1-0) allowed just four hits and struck out five over six innings, while Shearer was credited with the save after surrendering just one hit and one walk with five more Ks.
Â
Tulane starter Jake Saum (0-1) was chased in the third inning after giving up three runs on five hits with two strikeouts and three walks. He gave way to Carter Benbrook, who was impressive in his three frames, allowing only a hit and a walk, while fanning six batters.
Â
NU left fielder Tyler Ganus went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while right fielder Jackson Freeman scored three times.
Â
The Wildcats scored two runs in the first inning and another in the third before finishing with a bang. The team tacked on three more in the eighth and ninth frames, respectively.
Â
The Olive and Blue had one extra-base hit, a double to left center off the bat of first baseman Brady Marget in the sixth inning.
Â
In all, the two teams combined for 26 strikeouts (Tulane 16, Northwestern 10). However, the hosts issued eight free passes to just one for the visitors.
