
Track & Field Heads To Houston for the Victor Lopez Classic This Week

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane outdoor track & field program is on the road to Houston at the Victor Lopez Classic this weekend at Wendel D. Ley Track in a meet hosted by Rice University from March 22-23. The meet starts on Friday with the men's hammer at 9:30 a.m. Saturday's action begins with the men's shot put at 11 a.m.
The program is expected to send Lee Harris (100m, 200m, 4x400m relay), Francisco Roman III (200m, 400m, long jump), Roman Schrader (400m, 1500m), Zander Dunbar (800m, 4x400m relay), Jalen St. Fort (800m), Sam Cohen (800m, 4x400m relay), Charles Henne (800m, 4x400m relay), Parker Orlowsky (800m, 4x400m), Chase Cartwright (5000m), Albert Tawil-Brown (5000m), Adam Aldahir (5000m), Juan Giron (10000m), Dekel Regev (high jump, long jump, discus), Tolu Ajayi (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay), Bella Carroll (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay), Alexis Esteves (200m, 400m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay), Alyssa Taylor (200m, 400m, 4x400m relay), Elena Liano-Rengel (800m, 4x100m relay), Anna Schadel (800m, 4x400m relay), Reese Ragland (1500m), Macy Turcotte (1500m), Kaia Todd (100m hurdles, triple jump), Laura Fodor (100m hurdles, 4x400m relay), Patricija Ozolina (100m hurdles, 4x100m relay, long jump), Sofie Groeninger (100m hurdles, long jump, javelin), Robyn Larkan (100m hurdles, 4x100m relay), Karlijn Schouten (pole vault), Kate Sander (pole vault), Cosette Fleury (pole vault), Norah Bice (shot put, discus), Alyssa Dismuke (shot put, discus), Sofia Caruso (shot put, discus), Emma Simons (shot put, discus), Kara Schiek (javelin) and Payton Musso (javelin).
Last time out at the Louisiana Classics, Reese Ragland won the 800m to help lead the team. On the day the program had two events wins, 16 personal records and 14 top-10 finishes.
Ragland ran a 2:16.29 in the 800m to win the event.
Karlijn Schouten also started off the outdoor campaign with an event victory in the pole vault. She had a leap of 3.85m/12'07.50". Kate Sander ranked second in the pole vault with her 3.75m/12'03.75".
Albert Tawil-Brown placed fourth in the men's 1500m with a 4:00.40. Sam Cohen earned fifth in the 1500m with a 4:00.67. Paul James Pam was sixth in the event with his 4:01.37. Arturs Lapins took seventh with a 4:01.51, while Jalen St. Fort placed ninth with his personal-best 4:03.92
Macy Turcotte finished fourth in the women's 1500m with a 4:45.40. Amanda Soldan earned eighth with her 4:53.65. Lili Grant took ninth with a 4:53.53.
The women's 5000m was led by Alex Sharp taking fourth with a personal-best 17:53.13. Brenda Ellis also placed in the top-10 in seventh with 18:08.41
Matthew Remondet took sixth in the men's javelin with a personal record of 53.79/176'05".
Norah Bice was the team's highest finisher in the women's discus with her throw of 38.54/125'09".
Lee Harris was the club top finisher in the men's 100m with a 11.03.
Tolu Ajayi had the team's highest placing in the women's 100m with a personal record of 12.35. She also had the team's best finish in the 200m with a 25.47. Alexis Esteves set a person record in the event with a 26.18.
Patricija Ozolina was the club's top finisher in the javelin with her throw of 37.31m/122'05".
Zander Dunbar had a personal record of 49.41 in the men's 400m. Jalen St. Fort also had a personal record of 51.00 in the event.
The team's 4x100 relay team of Esteves, Robyn Larkan, Ajayi, Bella Carroll, Kaia Todd and Ozolina took eighth with 48.41.
During 2022-23 outdoor season, the Tulane women placed sixth overall with 63 points at the AAC Championships. The finish was Tulane's best since 2016. The Tulane men finished eighth during outdoor season with 26 points. The program totaled nine All-Conference selections during outdoor season in Janae Dean (1st – women's 800m), Victoria Robinson (3rd – women's 800m), Kara Steele (3rd – women's triple jump), Mackenzie Callahan (3rd - women's 1500m), Aaron Gilliam (3rd – men's 1500m), Bradley Makuvire (3rd – men's 5,000m), Mackenzie Callahan (2nd – women's 3000m steeplechase), Maren Butler (3rd – women's shot put), Margot Temines (3rd – women's heptathlon). Kristen O'Handley ended the outdoor season by achieving All-American status in the Heptathlon.
Next, the program continues the Spring Break trip and splits squad with most of the team going to the Bobcat Invitational from March 27-30 in San Marcos, Texas while selected members of the squad head to the Raleigh Relays from March 28-30.
